hmm, commenting so I can see too – we will be doing consumption as well, and I’m hoping the tab stays around $4000! but who really knows….

We are doing that too.  I dont know how it will play out.  Our coordinator suggested we do consumption and not the price per person cause not everyone that is coming will drink.  We are not serving liquor which will help with the cost too.  For beer and wine pp it would be $24 which according to their pricing is equal to 5 glasses of wine or 8 beers pp!!! No one is going to drink 8 beers in 4 hours!! At least I surely hope not and that would be for EVERYONE over 21.  I dont drink my FI family doesnt drink.  So it would be a waste of money.  The open bar would be $3600 for everyone or by consumption I am hoping under $2500.

@vorpalette:  A majority of or guests are mid 20’s-30’s too.  I just a basic math thing and with my 150 guests i did 75 of them drinking 4 beers each = $825 and 75 drinking 4 glasses of wine= $1350 totaling $2175.  I know that all the guests that do drink wont drink that much but I would that that would be the max they would drink. So I am going to say it is safe to say our tab will be less than $2000.

You bees know your crowds better than I do, but unless you know you have a lot of non-drinkers I strongly discourage consumption bars.

Consumption bar is actually a misnomer because you are not paying for drinks consumed, but rather drinks ordered from the bar.  People can be really cavalier about alcohol on somebody else’s dime, so they will misplace their drinks and have to get new ones, let their drinks get watery and have to get new ones, try a bunch of different things and only have a few sips of each (which of course they would never do if paying for their own)… so tread carefully.
