I find that now a days more and more women are having a say in the ring they want which is awesome, like i had said what i would like and we went “shopping” a couple times to try out different styles, in the end though i had no idea when he was going to propose or what the ring looked like and honestly i love that element of surprise and i looove love love the ring he chose. Anybody else out there who was surprised with ring choice or ones who had no idea he would propose?? show off your beautys!

@countrygirl12: My FI asked me if I’d want to choose my ring or have my FI pick it out, and I said I’d rather he picked it out. I wasn’t surprised by the proposal, but it was the first time I saw that ring. I think it’s so sweet he picked it all on his own, and it’s absolutely perfect for me. He did good 😀

FI had an idea of what I wanted and ran with it. I loooove it. I knew he was going to propose, though. It was sort of “ruined” accidentally but it was still incredibly special.

I did even officially know a proposal was coming (though there were plenty of hints on the horizon) but I love my ring and wouldn’t trade it for the world!

I had NO idea about the proposal and ring! I didn’t give my fiancé any tips or hints on what type of ring I wanted. It just didn’t cross my mind since I trust his style and knew he’ll choose something I’ll love, and I was right! He did an AMAZING job! He picked out my beautiful engagement ring all on his own, and I couldn’t be happier! I absolutely loved the surprise and wouldn’t want it any other way. 🙂

The only say I had in my ring was the shop it came from b/c I worked there and admired their jewelry. We had talked about incorporating sapphires either in the ring or as the center stone, but that’s it.
He surprised me with a big .70 round near colorless diamond with natural cornflower blue sapphires in the shank. I had absolutely no clue what the ring would look like, but pretty much everyone on here and in real life knows that I absolutely love this thing.

@Oxfordnerd: Oh, I adore your ring! So classy and beautiful. Is it vintage or an heirloom?

My FI enlisted help from my roommate when designing my ring. They did a wonderful job!

The only ring conversation we ever had was DH saying “I thought you’d like something antique/vintage” and me saying “yes, I would”. We’d talked about getting married and knew it was something we wanted but I had no idea he’d been looking at rings or planning a proposal.
So here’s my ring, from the 1920’s. 1.15 carat center.

I had given him ideas of what I liked, but he picked out my beauty all by himself.

@countrygirl12: I had no involvement at all! I didn’t even know he was thinking of proposing! He’d idly asked what I wanted on a couple of occasions and the only thing I’d said was that it had to be yellow gold.
He did an amazing job!

The only thing I told my FI was no public proposals, other than that I didn’t show or tell him anything but he picked a great ring and we had a perfect proposal(or non-proposal really!).
He also picked out a great promise ring 10 years before this one, and knowing how much I loved the shape of that one(it was a round garnet), he used that as his guide(his words)

FI asked me to show him some pictures of rings I liked, but absolutely did not want me to come with him to pick it out. He did it with the help of his mom and picked out the most perfect ring. I love it! And I loved being surprised.
I didn’t have that strong of an opinion in terms of what I wanted it to look like though, and I knew pretty much as little as he did about diamonds. I totally understand wanting to help pick it out if you have something very, very specific in mind.

All I said was that I didn’t want princess cut! 🙂
