Im on Lexapro and love it, but I do have no libido on it whatsoever! I think that is a side effect of every medication for anxiety/depression, at least the few Ive been on. :/

I loved that side effect lol, probably because my libido was so high before that and FI’s was so low. I am on Efexor now, my anxiety is better but that could also be due to the doxepin I am on. None of those I was put on for anxiety though. For anxiety I took Valium, but it doesn’t help me much. However, it does work for most people I am told, so maybe try that? I have a weird response to medications lol, what works for most people doesn’t work for me, etc.

When I started the lexapro I had the same problem (as well as ridiculous drowsiness). So instead of taking it in the morning like originally prescribed I take it at about 3 pm (it takes about 7-8 hours for me to feel tired/other side effects). Since I made that switch my libido went back to what it was.

Barbiestylez:  I am in the same boat. It sucks. My poor fiance, I honestly feel bad! My psychiatrist suggested Wellbutrin at the same time to elevate it, as she states it isn’t supposed to have that side effect. I did not see a difference.

i tried lexapro for a month, it did absolutely nothing. like, i ended up hospitalized because it just didn’t work.

i’ve been on celexa (citalopram) for years and years. it works really well for my depression with no big side effects.

At the moment I’m on valium. Which is working pretty well so far however it’s only been 1 week.

I’m on a low dose which I have early evening and during the night as I have so much trouble staying asleep and I started to get extremely anxious as the evening came.

Goodluck with finding a better medication because it’s such an awful experience.

I take 50mg sertraline (Zoloft) every day. It works really well for me and my libido is just fine 😀

(birth control pills had a much worse effect on my libido)

Wellbutrin is another AD that doesn’t kill your sex drive.

Wellbutrin is supposed to have the fewest sexual side effects, and it worked well for me for a couple of years.

If you are always on the lowest dose, could you try some non medicated alternatives?

I have anxiety and was on several different medications until 19, which always had different side affects including poor libido.  My doc kept switching me up saying I hadn’t found the right mix for myself yet.  I believed him and tried valium, xanex and I can’t remember the others.   I ended up doing an anxiety class which eventually taught me coping mechanisms to use in real life and now I have been medication free for 3 years.  I do still occassionally have a panic attack (one about every 4 months) but I know how to talk myself through them and cope.  For me I much prefer that to the medications and side affects and financial cost.
