@applecat:  I’ve only been to Aruba once, for one day, on a cruise.  But it was BEAUTIFUL.

I will say that from what I have heard (from multiple sources who don’t know one another), the all-inclusives there are not necessarily worth the money.  I’ve heard that the food is not that great, and that because there are so many really good restaurants around, people wind up leaving the AI resort and spending money on food elsewhere anyway.

Of course I’m sure it depends on the resort and your tastes and preferences.  I would just check into tripadvisor ratings first to see what other guests are saying.

I’ve been to Aruba.  It was many years ago, very nice place, very quiet.  Don’t know that resort, but you can’t go wrong there.  Only thing you might not know is the island is extremely windy.  I loved it but some might not.

We went to Aruba in December for our honeymoon and loved it! It’s a gorgeous place.

We didn’t stay at that particular resort – we stayed at the Renaissance Aruba which is actually in “downtown Oranjestad”. We did go up the beach near where you are staying and it looked amazing too! Ours was an all-inclusive, but we found we ended up going out a few times to some other restaurants. If you do go elsewhere, I’d recommend trying some Dutch pancakes – it’s breakfast so it’s cheaper and they were delicious. If you’re looking for a dinner out somewhere more expensive not part of your all inclusive, I’d recommend the LG Steakhouse at the Renaissance. It had the best steak I have ever had.

Aruba is very windy and very sunny so bring your sunscreen. Trust me – you can tan still by wearing 30 SPF. We did two excursions while we were there: an island tour and a sunset cruise. The island tour was worth it – you see most of the island in 4 hours. The sunset cruise was also amazing: the staff were wonderful and you get alcohol and snacks. It was tons of fun. We also did some shopping in Oranjestad – lots of nice shops. But mostly, we sat on the beach and swam 🙂

What time of year are you going? Have a great time!

I was in Aruba the week before the Natalie Holloway disappearance.  I recommend sticking to the resort.  We rented a car and went to Baby Beach, but got lost on the way home and the locals are very shady and not very helpful.

We actually went to that Carlos and Charlies and after dinner both my ex and I looked at each other and said “This place is creepy lets get out of here ASAP”.

We had a good time though – it was nice to relax and the water was beautiful, but like I said stick the resort.

GG_Vega:  I find it interesting to see you didn’t find it safe? We had the exact opposite experience. We walked around and never had anyone approach us – even when we were walking around well after dark in the city. We felt so safe we actually took the city bus instead of a taxi because it was cheaper and the people were more than happy to tell us what time the bus was coming and tell us where to get off.
