I went to the Mayan Riveria and spent the day in Playa.  It had a ton to do.  It was super busy during the day and we drove through at night and it was still bustling.  It’s also really close to several Mayan Ruins, so that’s something you could do.

We stayed at a Palace resort and they offer unlimited transfers to other Palace resorts in the  area.  So, if you wanted to see what another one had to offer you could do that.

Ummmm…less than an hour?  Our resort was about 20 – 30 min from Playa and somewhere in the ballpark of an hour and a half-ish from the airport.  I know that’s about as clear as mud, but it depends on the driver and traffic.

I went to Playa last summer.  Most of the big all inclusive resorts are just outside of Playa.  We stayed in a little hotel right on 5th Ave.  5th Ave is where all of the action is.  it has tons of little shops on it, great restaurants, and great people watching.  We had a great time in Playa.  One thing that I would recommend doing, is taking a ferry over to Isla Mujeres (you can take the ferry from either Playa or Cancun).  Isla is really laid back and relaxed.

Playa is a lot of fun. You can take the ferry over to Cozumel from there, and there’s a great restaurant called the Blue Parrot.

I would recommend staying at El Dorado Royale. It’s about 20 minutes from Playa, and they have a free shuttle.

@Sunshine23: I don’t blame you at all!  I felt the same way.  But, it’s really not bad.

Playa was lots of fun, and you can sign up for catamaran/snorkeling trips or a trip to Tulum to see the ruins and frolick on the beach.

I just returned from a trip to Riviera Maya, we spent a day at Playa on 5th Avenue. Like the other bee’s, 5th Avenue is a huge shopping area with both local and “designer” stores (Oakley, Starbucks, a leather store, and some clothing boutiques). We went to Senor Frogs for dinner, drinks, and dancing after we walked 5th Ave.  Very nice area! Also, you can make a day of bike trips, trips to the Mayan Ruins, and other packaged deals they have that bus you to other places. We made a day of taking a trip to Isla Mujeres, we were bussed from our hotel to Cancun, then hopped on a boat that served drinks and breakfast.  While on the island, you could snorkel, swim with wildlife (sharks, dolphins, stingrays, sea lions, etc), Zip-line, Swim in their panoramic pools, kayak, and so on. Also, there was a lunch included. It took up the entire day, from around 8am til dark by the time we got back to our hotel.
