- Wedding: February 2012
I’m currently pregnant, due at the end of Feb. Money is tight so I will be working from home for the first few months before going back to work. I work in tourism, so from May until end of Sept I will need to be in the office. I don’t earn that much either, and the cost of daycare exceeds my actual wage. So for 5 months I need a care-giver. Mum has said she can come over for 2-week stints once a month, and DH’s mother can come over a couple of times for a few days, but this in no way will be enough for us.
I used to be an aupair, I was with the same family for a total of 18 months over 2 years. I LOVED it. I had a fantastic time and loved taking care of the kids – one of my proudest days was when the youngest did a poo in her potty for the first time. The youngest was one when I joined the family. We have such a close bond that they were my bridesmaids when I got married in Feb. We are seriously considering hiring an aupair – but going on recommendation, or someone from my local community back in Wales (I’d love someone that could speak Welsh). The mother of the family I lived with told me that she had one or two bad experiences, but mostly her family gained so much from having an Au Pair. The whole family through language skills and the kids through development of their personalities.
Just wondering if anyone out there has an aupair and how is it working out for them?
