I’ve just started trying to lose some weight. I have quite a bit to lose. Anyway, I’m just wondering how much will my ring size change, if any? FI are hoping to buy our engagement rings in April next year when we go to the UK, and I’ll probably still be losing weight at that point. I’m not sure what size I should order. A smaller size? My current size at that moment in time? Please help me ladies!

Yes. My finger went down from 7.5 to 6.5 and now I’m seriously suss that it’s 6. When you lose weight, you might lose finger weight or not at all. Resizing has been a pain to me, so my advice is really to wait!!!

Mrs_Purple: Order your current size. You can always get it fixed later, if you lose that much weight. I lost over 30lbs post-engagement. It went from fitting slightly snug to a tad loose. Meaning, it spins, but def isn’t at risk of falling off. And depending on how hot or bloated I am, it can even become a little tight again. So, while it did change, it didn’t change enough to warrant ordering it in a smaller size…. Especially because I would have had no way of knowing how much weight would be lost at that point. You’d rather have it just slightly bigger (and be able to take away metal) than too small (and have to add metal).

No. Only time it changed was last couple of months of pregnancy.

My case is the opposite. I used to be a 5.5 and now I’m a 6.25 after gaining 50 pounds or so. I can still wear a 5.5 pretty comfortably but my true size is a 6-6.25.

Yes. I lost 15kgs (I weigh 53kgs now ) and my ring size changed – significantly!

I lost 10-15 pounds since I got engaged, and I will probably go get my ring re-sized. It won’t fall off, but it spins like crazy and annoys me! I couldn’t believe such a small amount of weight made such a big difference in my ring size- weird!

Thanks for the response ladies!! I think I’ll order whatever size I am in April and if it gets too big I’ll look into resizing 🙂

Mrs_Purple: I lost about 40 lbs. I went from a ring size 9 to a 6.5/7.

Yes, I swear I lost all my weight in my finger!

Ha, apparently I’m the exception. I’ve lost 50lbs, gained back 25, and all through that time my ring size has been stubbornly constant!

I lost 65 pounds and about 1.5 ring sizes. I needed to get mine resized as I was seriously afraid of it falling off.

I haven’t lost a significant amount of weight, but I have gained around 50 pounds over the past two years, and my ring size has remained unchanged.

About 10 years ago I lost more than 60lbs and my fingers definitely got thinner. I’m afraid that I can’t give you a size though, not sure what I had before but I went down to a 4.5. From my experience though, taking in a ring is way easier than making it bigger. So if I were you, I would wait as long as possible and then go with the ring size you have at that point in time. Just wait with engravings until you have reached a more stable weight.

I lost about 45lbs a year and a bit ago and my ring size went from 6.5 to a 6. My fingers could always fit into a 6, but 6.5 had always been more comfortable. Now my 6.5 rings slide off my finger so I have to get them resized (:
