I totally didn't design/create mine. I ordered them from an internet site already printed and everything. Big relief off of me.
Guilty as charged. I'm DIYing some stuff for sure (escort card holders, napkins, fans, programs) but I don't think I'll have nearly enough time or energy to do the invites. I really only have my mom and sister to help me, and they live 2.5 hours away! I am sincerely jealous of everyone who's doing it though!
I'm not sure what I am going to do yet... part of me is really wanting to make mine, but then I'm not the most creative person and I am scared I would majorly screw them up haha. So I'm not sure what I am going to do yet.
I was thinking of ordering online printing them.
But the more I see the pocketfold invites I love them.
So I might just order them DIY Kit... Everything cut out!! Only need to print and paste them together.
Have of the work done!!
I don't know if this counts, but I envisioned the invitations and The Hubs did the DIY. He does a lot of design and Photoshop stuff at work, so he was able to put together exactly what I was envisioning. So, I guess technically, I didn't do my own, but we had some DIY in the mix.
I bought the paper products, but my friend did the design (with my input!) and printing. Sooo not crafty.
I definitely did NOT make them! Way too much work. I know, it's sad. I have a lot to do though! I am making my own programs though so maybe that makes up for it. ;)
I ordered my invites and then added a directions card and an embossed heart on the invite itself (there was supposed to be a monogram but I screwed up when ordering, d'oh!)
Looking back I was not very happy with my invites and I kinda wish I had done them myself. Oh well.
I've been debating whether I would DIY my invites or not. I'm having a small wedding, so the cost savings might not be worth the time it will take to do them.
I'm not DIYing mine either. (I'm hoping they'll arrive soon so I can send them out and blog about them!) Of course I've made up the time that would have taken to DIY them by starting a million other DIY projects. :)
I'm probably going to order them online. I still toss around the idea of making them, but I'm not sure if it's feasable for me or if it would be the best decision (budget wise).
We'll see!!
**raises hand** i still have a few months to decide. let's see how other seemingly simpler projects turn out............
We chose ours out of a book, and we love them! We just aren't crafty enough!
I have no talent in designing and we just pick one from the website. Why feel guilty?
we are not doing DIY our invites.... we are doing somewhat traditional and the quality is a big factor on our list
I thought about making my own for about half an hour - then got so tired just thinking about it that I said "no way". I had pretty much no desire to make my own. That doesn't mean I don't love to look at/get a little jealous of the beautiful paper crafts showcased EVERY DAY on Weddingbee, but it may have just killed me to do my own invitations.
I'd love to do my own but thinking of all the effort and the dozens of hours spent doing them...not to mention that I'm a perfectionist and I would absolutely have to have them perfect before sending them out would be another thing to worry about. If I don't find the right ready-made invites, I'll probably do my own.
I didn't do it, but I tied a bow around each. I even paid a calligrapher.
****Hands up**** It sounds great to me on paper....lol....but in the real world...not gonna happen....I'll be Etsying and proud of it!
I ordered mine online and they turned out beautifula nd were a reasonable cost. I did play around with the wording a bit. We made our own directions/Accomodations card in Word and we used resume paper that was the same ecru as our invitations.
I didn't make mine either. I ordered them, and just had to put them togehter - invitation, tissue paper, rsvp, inner envelope, outer envelope.
My STDs were already sent out before I found WB. If I would have found this site sooner, I may have thought about making my own invitations. I love doing crafts and am incorporating a lot of DIY into the wedding. Since it was too late, I purchased the matching invites from WeddingPaperDivas.com.
I don't plan to make ours. I would like to get them designed perhaps by an Etsy seller, and then I think a printer we know will do us a good deal on the printing (he already has said he will).
I'll assemble them myself though, and I also think I'll get some paper/card part printed so that we can print our own menus/programmes etc. for the day - using the same fonts i hope as the invites.
oh thank goodness... i was starting to think i was the only one. there's no way that DIY will fit in my schedule :( anyone have recommendations for affordable (and cute) invitation websites?
I ordered some inexpensive ones...Invitations weren't very important to me, not enough to spend a lot of money, and not enough to spend my time on them.
I never even considered DIYing my own invitations. I value my sanity. :) Kudos to those brides that do it, they have far more patience than I!
Definitely went through Etsy. The invitations we settled on are so reasonably priced, we're even considering ordering table cards and place settings from the same vendor.
I've never had any intention of doing my own. Is that bad? LOL. I'm not a DIY-er at all. I get this from my mom.
I'm actually considering doing a semi-DIY route with the "just print your info" invites from Michaels. I'm a writer and graphic designer by day and I'm feeling pressure to have PERFECT and AMAZING invites. Everyone just "can't wait" to see what I'll make- this way I can just say I didn't have the time/energy and wanted to do it cheap.
Look ... I recognize my talents and shortcomings and making invitations is definitely a shortcoming of mine! Embrace it and get someone who can design what you love!
Hehe... I was going to make mine... i swear! but my mother had it in her to go get them traditionally done... chinese style which is usually on some sort of red paper with gold lettering... when she said she wanted it i was really relieved because making my own seem like a LOT of work! ^_^
I shudder at the prospect of making mine...but we have a website, so it'll be low-key, no pocketfolds or anything...hopefully minimal cutting...and we'll have them professionally printed. hah This is all in hopes that it saves us some moula!
I am semi-DIY. I also loved all of the cool designs from the designer bees and I was envious. I attempted to design and it was a big FAIL. I opted to work with a company that could do the design and printing and all I had to do was tell them what I wanted. I am a paper junkie though so I couldn't give up the chance to do something with the invites. I am adding a belly band with embossing and envelope liners. I am also creating some fun wrap around labels. I feel like I am still getting that DIY fix but get the nice professional look I was striving for.
Pfft. I could never in a million years been able to pull of doing my own invites. I payed someone to do mine, and a pretty penny to do so if I might add!

I admit I am good at on my own creating SOME thing (am good at flower design, and party planning..actually amazing at it) but designing completely my own invites? Nah. Don't think so.
But I will be 100 percent instrumental in helping the person I choose to design them create what it is I envision!
I truly wish I was one of those bees who could do graphic design or had a flair for paper crafts.
Anybody wish to admit they're like me and in the same boat?
MUCH love and hugs to the ones who can create these little bits of wedding goodness btw! I so enjoy seeing what the amazing bees here have made!
I guess I suffer from P.C.E. (paper craft envy). Can Doctorgirl prescribe me something for that? lol!
