So we had a little dilemma with not having a ceremony location. We initially wanted a backyard ceremony but changed our minds (I was thinking about the weather, parking, and just not thinking the backyard was nice enough for a wedding).
I thought we could marry in the church I started going to but that was something fi didn’t really want and then with time ticking off, the church was slow to get back to me.
So we found our ceremony venue and it is a rustic looking lodge only 4 minutes away from the reception venue: perfection!!!!
We love the venue and we know that while it would have been simpler to have both events in 1 place, it was not possible. Fmil doesn’t like our idea of 2 separate venues (even though she is catholic and that is how most people do things). Isn’t it the norm to have a ceremony 1 place, then reception someplace else? Were your guests inconvenienced?

@bridalprincess: We have seperate locations. We wanted to get married in FI’s church and didn’t want to have the reception there (no alcohol allowed and couldn’t really be dressed up to black tie).

Our church is about 30min from our reception site. It’s inconvenient, but was really the only feasible option for us. Definitely gotten a lot of flack for it, but stuck with what we wanted and I’m really happy we did (so far lol). 4 minutes is nothing! Stick with your plans, it sounds awesome. Congrats!

People seem to expect it, we have a long break between ceremony and reception. The venues are about 30 mins apart.

I wouldn’t even bat an eye at 4 minutes.

We are having a church ceremony and the majority of our guest are from out of town. We will give them an itinerary when they arrive in their welcome bags. They will need to be in the lobby of the hotel at a specific time for buses to take guest to the church and back to the hotel for the cocktail hour and reception. I know it is a lot but we wanted to get married in a church so we found a way and not inconvenience our guest.

I have yet to go to a wedding that both the ceremony and reception is held in the same location. My recepetion venue is a little too small for both, so I am planning on having the ceremony in another location…hopefully a short drive away.
