@linnylou_88:  why not get a diamond band and another plain precious metal band? I’ve already ordered a plain hammered gold band from Etsy to use as one of my wedding bands and as something I can comfortably wear while doing outdoorsy things/travelling.

I speak for multitudes of friends that curse their diamond or pave wedding bands.

They say it’s a pain when they lose a stone (or being anxious about when the next stone will fall out) and they always have to take it off when they’re doing chores or anything that requires hard work of their hands.

I concur with the pave being a risk, and this is my biggest fear, since my engagement ring has pave in it… but it’s just a matter of being careful and/or having a really, really good care protection plan.

I take my ring off for everything (dishes, boating, sleeping, showering, working out, playing with the dog, even running in the morning) but that’s just me.

I have a solitaire 1 carat engagement ring. No diamonds on the band.

I have a .5 carat diamond band, it’s prong set, and there are 8 diamonds in the band. I love it.

However, I also have a plain white gold band that I wear when doing outdoorsy activities or if I for whatever reason want a plainer look.

@linnylou_88:  I do keep a plain silver band as well for a bunch of reasons (ie: I take the train into Philadelphia, so let me not wear my engagement ring through the train stops in Camden).

It, however, doesn’t pair off nicely with my engagement ring, so I wouldn’t keep it as my permanent wedding band, but its nice to have when doing those things… Plus, when I finish my degree, I’ll have to wear gloves, and I wanted something plain for that too.

I just don’t like wearing a ring in general if I’m doing stuff when my hands get gross, I think.

I never regret having my diamond wedding ring.  It’s a shared prong setting anyway so I never worry about the diamonds falling out.  Of course it could still happen but I don’t worry about it.  Like the PP I talk my rings off for everything that might damage it.  If we are at the beach I may wear a cheapy plaim band but other than that I’m OK going w/o.  I do work from home so some days I just wear my wband and leave my ering in the jewerly case.
