@Jw1724:  A nice framed wall mirror would look great! Plus it brightens and widens the space. You can use a large one or maybe 2-3 for a collage look.

As for the floor, I’m not too picky when it comes to colors. I personally, like a more eclectic/global look (lots of color and pattern), but you seem to have a more traditional vibe, so possible a neutral with patterns. It just depends on your personal preference/style.

@Jw1724:  I think neutrals! I think blue tones may make the whole room too blue.

@Jw1724:  I agree with you about the rug… beige or neutral would look nice and go with everyting in the room, but something with blue in it, in my opinion, wouldn’t go that well with the floor or the couches, and it would just be too much blue. The walls are great, but I think that a rug would just never have the same blue, and that would be a little weird. Just my opinion though!

@Jw1724:  You can’t go wrong with neutrals because they match literally everything. If you want to play with color you can always layer up, so like a smaller neutral color rug on top, and maybe a different shade of blue (that doesn’t match the walls) on the bottom. If you really like the blue color scheme, just go ahead and play with different shades. That way it doesn’t look too matchy!

@Jw1724:  IMO, I think you should keep blue to a minimum because of the walls. If you get a rug with blue in it, just make it small accents. I agree that a brownish rug will look best, but it could have a pattern of some kind in it. Your living room reminds me of mine! Same color sofas & we have a blue accent wall (well, it’s more of a sea foam color) & on the smaller side.

As for the wall art, yes a mirror would look nice. I have 2 matching pics of artsy looking flowers above mine. I wish there were 3, because odd numbers usually look best when decorating.

You could also do something like a big decorative wooden letter that represents your (future) last name & put some wall sconces or shelves on either side.

@Jw1724:  A light brown or chocolate brown rug would be best. It would make the room more balanced. You could really do anything you wanted in there – floral, striped, solid.

I think adding curtains to the windows will also help make the room more polished. I would do chocolate brown or cream coloured curtains.

In terms of what should go above the couch, the possibilites are really endless. You could do a gallery wall, or you could get a reproduction of your favourite painting, a peice on canvas (like they sell at Homesense or Michaels), or a large mirror, for example. You could buy an original peice of art like a painting or a photograph.Whatever you do though needs to be in scale with the couch. If it is too large or too small it will look weird.

@Jw1724:  Oooh thats frustrating. My DH has weird hang ups like that too though. Maybe just bring some sheer white/cream ones home and put them up, without him knowing. Surprise!! Haha.

Seriously though, what about a valance? Or like a fabric swag at the top of the windows, that hangs halfway down the frame, outside of the windows? It would still have an effect and add interest, but wouldn’t block light. Also you could get panels of fabric very cheap at a fabric store.

@Jw1724:  I think the wall would look really nice with a cluster of different-sized pics in frames (family, friends, pets, etc) like this:

Also, a cute rug that would bring in the neutral tones plus some blue, like this (it’s at Kmart I think):
