I have had PCOS since I was 16.  I lost some weight around age 21 and got pregnant without trying because my cycles became normal.  After I had my son of course I was heavier and not getting my cycles so I saw my doctor and and specialist because I wanted to try again.  I was put on metformin and clomid for a couple of cycles but it did not help.  Then I tried femera and that also did not help.  I had to take something to make my cycles start before I could take those fertility meds.  I had given up and stopped going to see my doctor. Over the last year I have lost about 70 pounds and my cycles are back to normal now and I am not using any protection or fertility meds and am hoping to get pregnant soon.

Good Luck

Brown spotting is usually the sign of a period to come.  It’s just old blood.  At least for me.  I also have PCOS and can feel your pain on the lack of periods and the having to test each and every month!

I saw a RE (fertility doc) for my PCOS to help me conceive after taking a few rounds of oral meds with my regular GYN.  It was the best thing ever.  My RE ran so many more tests to ensure everything else was ok.  They even tested my husband and discovered that in addition to my PCOS, we also had male factor infertility.  We were able to get preganant last summer with a combo of injectables and IUI (insemination).  My sweet son is now 7 months old.

@FutureMrs86:  brown spotting can be ovulation, estrogen breakthrough (hormonal), early AF, Implantation, Pregnancy

Sooooo many factors…if it’s the Implantation..you should still wait a while…if it’s ovulation…wait another 2 weeks to test.  If it’s early AF…well then get ready to start CD1!

@FutureMrs86:  more than anything it sounds to me like your about to get your period. I also have PCOS and have been on the pill for about 4 years. I just stopped taking it because it was making me crazy, FI and I are not going to be TTC until about Oct next year.

previously to me stopping the pill (and what made my doctor put me on it at first when I was 18) was that I  went about 9 months without getting a period at all.. Which is totally crazy to me

I’ve been off the pill for one month and got my period right on time! The thing that I think made me get it is I now am in a normal weight range. Over the last 4 years I lost and have kept off 50 lbs. I think a healthy diet, exercise and a healthy weight are key to helping regulate your period.

basically I treat myself like I’m a diabetic.. Because those of us with PCOS have insulin resistance.. I recommend checking out the book “the low Gi guide to living well with PCOS” it gives you a good understanding of how PCOS works and a bunch of great success stories of people who have regulated their peroid.

Good luck!
