Yeah they are really picky about that! Try and fake it and see if that works and take it to a diff location

To be honest, I wouldn’t put it past them that they will definitely put up a stink about it. My husband and I have had to go to the district manager twice now because of issues we’ve had with them, some concerning the ‘warranty’. In my opinion, As long as your ring is insured, I would never buy a warranty through them. However it is nice to have it for cleanings and sizing, although I have found that going to a local Jeweller for my ring plating and cleaning is better than going there. I can have it back in one day instead of two weeks!

To add to my last comment, when my husband bought my ring, he actually bought it through a jewelry designer/Canadian diamond rep from TO who worked for people’s and was in town just for the weekend. He was told he had the protection plan (from the manager that helped him) but in reality he was given a fake authorization number. Turns out, people’s doesn’t give warranties to custom rings, but we had to fight with people’s for weeks before we were told this. Even after all this happened, they wouldn’t authorize our warranty. I don’t want to be such a downer, but I just want to prepare you for what you might face when you task people’s about your warranty!

@missjewels:  Yes it’s true…. I’m from TO and know the rules of Peoples . It’s a standard rule cuz I got mine from The Diamond Company and they have the same six month rule. The head manager knows me n FI so well he just signs it whenever. Half the time when in he area I just pop in and ring gets cleaned , dipped , inspected and it’s at no  cost. The entire store staff know us by name cuz we frequent the place n buy all our stuff there.  All I can say is find a location convenient for you to stop by when needed. It helps to stick to one store so they get o know you…. Way I look at it is that’s it’s a huge investment thousands of D’s your SO paid…. No different than a car purchase, if you want to have warranty, you must keep repairs and regular check ups done.  A headache but needed for your valued investment. I don’t like doing it myself but understand it ensures my ring is maintained well.  Wish I had better news to share with you about his issue.

I’m in Toronto and they are pretty relaxed about the protection plan over here. They insist on the 2 times a year inspection for really expensive diamonds but any piece of jewelery under $1500 is ok once a year. I once saw them take a really old bracelet from a girl who never had it inspected and had it repaired under her protection plan.

Also, it all depends on the sales person and on the manager. I have gotten different service from different staff at the same store. One girl tells me nothing I want is allowed while another girl will make anything happen for me 😉

I’ve been really happy with Peoples up to now. I hope you can get your warranty validated!

@Scintillante:  I do agree with you that it depends on the store/manager. Unfortuantly we had to deal with a certain store because of the issues we had (because the jewellery designer was at that store when we bought the ring), however I have gone to other People’s stores for other jewelry and have had much better service! I have had a bad experience, but that’s not to say that others won’t have a great one. I just had to share and hope no else deals with what we dealt with!

@missjewels:  haha yea get your free sizings! I got 2 sizings (they messed up the first) and 10 free rhodium platings from the district manager for our troubles! Although, I’ve only used 3 of them because I enjoy going my local jeweller better
