What kind of tablet do you have and what do you use it for?
We are thinking of all going in together and getting my mom a tablet for her upcoming birthday. I have an iPad and love it, but I use apps a lot, which I don’t think she will, and I don’t need a lot of storage space, where she might want to store pictures on her new toy. Ideal would be a cheaper tablet with USB/mini USB and/or SD/micro SD slot, at least 32 GB storgae, and user friendly. Does anyone have a reccomendation?

I have an iPad, my husband has a Nexus 7 and 10. We bought my mom a Nexus 7 a few years ago and it’s perfect for her. She uses it for reading and when she travels so she can still be connected for email and facebook. She doesn’t really use it at home since she prefers the bigger screen on her computer for normal web based stuff.
I’m an Apple girl so I only use their products but the Nexus is a good (and cheaper) alternative if you don’t want to spend the big bucks to get an iPad. I don’t think it has an SD slot though, so if that’s important, it won’t be a good option for you. I believe some of the galaxy tablets have external storage capabilities but I’ve never used one of those so I have no idea how they hold up compared to other brands.

I have a nexxus 7 and I use it for everything. I love it. I’m not a heavy app user myself, since mainly I read books, browse the internet and play a few games when I’m bored, sometimes watch movies. The resolution is amazing for photos. And the price is super affordable.
There’s no SD card though. I download everything on Google drive, which is actually easier for me since I’m constantly on the go, all I need is an internet connection to download something. I was using Google Drive before I had my tablet though, so it was really easy for me. Might be slightly more difficult for someone learning how to use it for the first time if they’re not good with technology.
Also of her upcoming birthday isn’t till late ssummer, I’d wait a month before buying maybe. A lot of tech companies have their product conferences in June, so there could be other viable options on the horizon or older products might become discounted.

Laurenplusalex: FI bought me an Apple 4th Generation ipad as a 2012 Christmas present and I loved it. Unfortunately, the camera stopped working about six months ago, but not a HUGE deal. Then, about a month ago the ipad started turning itself off and finally, I couldn’t turn it back on. Sent it back to HSN under 3yr warranty. They called FI last week n said it can’t be repaired and they’re given us a full $1,100 refund. I’ve already picked out my new Samsung Galaxy Pro 12.2. It was highly recommended by a friend of mine who’s an IT expert.

I like my iPad, my mom and my boyfriend’s mom each have one as well. There is enough storage and to be honest it is a hell of a lot less frustrating than the older android tablet I had.

I recently got a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 and I like it. I wanted the 10 inch because that’s why I was used to, but I wanted a bit more portability. The 7 in was too small for my liking and I’m digging the 8 inch, it’s a happy medium for me.
I previously had an original iPad (which lasted me about 3 years). I liked it just fine until apple released iOS 6. The original Ipad didn’t update past iOS 5, and more and more apps were unable to be updated on my ipad or even run because they were too memory intensive. It also had a terrible problem with crashing no matter which app I used for the last 1 years making it virtually unusable. When I went to apple they said it was because the apps were compatible with the latest OS, and to remedy the issue I just needed to get a new iPad (I know their phones stop being unable to update to new iOS a couple of years out). I got pretty irritated with apple for doing stuff like this, and the only solution was to buy their newest and latest tablet. So I ditched the iPad and don’t regret it one bit.

Laurenplusalex: We have a Kindle Fire HD, an iPad and some knock off brand. I use them when we are travelling instead of hauling around the laptop. They are also used for the kids to do their school work (the iPad was assigned by the school with the option to buy, we just bought our own and downloaded the sofware). We also watch netflix and hulu on them at random times. Just whatever.
ETA: I dont like the Apple brind, I use the Kindle. The knock off is only really good for the netflix and hulu watching.

I have a Galaxy Tab 3, 7 inch. I’m behind the times, I know, but it’s freaking awesome. Apps, pictures, books, wedding planning, this sucker is great.
