congrats on the upcoming brace removal!
I need braces like there's no tomorrow, but due to multiple reasons I'm leaving them hideously crooked. :P
I recently had braces for a year and a half (my second time wearing braces -- I also had them for three years in middle school). Got them off in October. I was smiling huuuuge after I got them removed
gorgeous in both photos!! but yayyyyyyy! can't wait to see the reveal photos :)
I got mine off Sophomore year after almost 2 years of them in high school....that was bad enough lol!
I would love to get braces, but I'm afraid I would look like a COMPLETE goober. I'm going to be 30 in 4 months. Just can't wrap my mind around the idea of it : / I would be way to self-conscious, plus I know it would HURT like crap. My bottom front teeth are pretty crooked, but oh well.
Will be awesome to see your pics! BTW, I love the brown hair color too :) What is it with guys anyways? So opinionated about things like that... :P
If by "as an adult, you mean 17.5+", I got mine off when I was 19 (maybe 20? ). It must have been 19, I was scheduled to get them off, but my boss wouldn't let me take off, even though I'd known about the appointment before I'd even had the job. :(
I don't really have any before/afters that I can show, even if I were willing, as I'm a closed smiler. But I will gladly regale you with my experience.
I had to have eight teeth taken out beforehand. They didn't even warn me they were putting on brackets, they slapped them on when orthodontist was checking out my gumminess. I was mad, I still had food that I needed to eat! I had to give it all away, so sad.
The day I got them off, I bought an apple nearly 3/4 as big as my head. It hurt eating it, and I was stuffed at half of it, but it was worth it. I also bought some beef jerky, my mom said "if it hurts, don't eat it!" but I was too excited. I finished that stick with tears in my eyes. Worth it, 100%.
Maybe I got them off at 20, because I flipped out that fall and bought waaay too many popcorn balls. I had to make up for lost time. I think they were all I ate for a month.
I didn't really wear my retainers like I should have, so I have a few gaps where my teeth were pulled, and I don't think my fronts completely line up.
@okqueenbee - I put them off for YEARS for that reason. I'm a professional, I work with others older than my age in my industry, and people tell me I look younger than I am (before braces and during). And get this - I got them on in July and lost my job in October back in '08. So I got to interview for work with braces on my face, looking like I was 13 and begging for a chance! LOL
That being said, it was a fantastic decision and I am 100% glad that I did it. :) I was never overly insecure about my teeth (which admittedly look great in that top pic, they were more crooked in profile) but now I smile bigger and wider and love it - braces or not!
@surkim - I'm a bad one, but I eat nearly everything I want to as long as it doesn't hurt too much - beef jerky, steak, etc. I can't eat apples, sunflower seeds (in the shell, ah, miss those)
And yeah - opinions on the hair color? The bottom is close to my natural although it is hard to see with the dark photo. I LOVED the dark brown hair, now I'm sitting here wishing I could go dye it back!
I think the dark brown hair is stunning! Also, congrats on being close to getting rid of those braces!!
I want to join in too! I had them at just before I turned 14, and they came off 2 yrs later. 4 Healthy teeth were yanked out in the process. I had the roof of my mouth set wider, I wore neckgear at night...all worth it in the end! Pictures are: before, with weights, with retainer and finally the after :) Sorry some are pixelated, it was in the days before digital cameras!
Pre Braces
I got braces in 9th grade and then got them off at the beginning of my senior year. I was 18 but i would got through all of it again because i love my teeth now.
During braces but pre surgery( I had surgery to pull down teeth that were impacted into the roof of my mouth. When they put the braces on they pulled the baby teeth so i had awkward empty spot for 1 year)
With braces after the teeth were pulled down
Now with them off ( this was during senior year so its like 3 years old)
got my braces on in 8th grade. Had 4 teeth pulled (2 sholdve stayed, they were permanent baby teeth). Had an incisor moved 2 positions (to where it shouldve been...). Had them on all through HS. Got them off freshman year of college. Went to the implant specialist. Had to put braces BACK on to move that tooth back. Had them on for 3 more years (in college!). Proceeded to get 2 implants. 3 caps. 1 veneer. Wore a clear retainer for a year. And finally, at the end of college, it was alllll done. So we're looking at braces from age 13 - 20. ugh :)

I'm really excited to FINALLY be getting my braces off after 20 months! I'm 28 (okay, realistically i'm two months from 29...) and never got the chance to have braces as a kid. I thought I would give you guys a peek at my before photos and come back in two weeks to show you my real after photos!
So this was about two years ago now - I also REALLY LOVE my hair this color but my other half didn't approve.
And here I am most recently - Can't wait until these bad boys come off!
Has anyone else had actual braces as an adult? Are you willing to show your before and afters?
