I use Bare Minerals and I love it, but I think it has very light coverage, unfortunately. Though, it does feel weightless, and it's certainly oil-free. I still have to use a regular heavier cream concealer for under my eyes and any stray blemishes.
I used to love it, but I couldn't handle the MESS it made. My bathroom would be covered in a layer of powder and I'd have to scrub it all down once a week. I was also trying to keep things clean too. I closed caps after every use, etc.
Le sigh.
Right now I'm using a combo of Chanel, Smashbox, Urban Decay, and Makeup Forever. And Bobbi Brown. I love its. :p
@fifty Dang I forgot about the mess! My makeup bag is trashed and my sink turns beige by the end of the week. I always end up with powder on my clothes, and I've dropped the open container once or twice too. Huge mess!
yuk...who wants a mess??
Any other good foundations suggestions?S??
I use BareMinerals for my every day wear. It definitely gives a natural look and is very light, doesn't feel cakey like regular foundation, but the downside is that coverage is not that great. If your skin is dry the powder can settle in fine lines too. I also feel like the system is wasteful, because I end up wasting half the powder on my bathroom counter.
Yeah, it's nice, but wastful and messy. Right now I have some that I got off ebay and I love that it was cheap. I wouldn't buy it new again. Also, in pictures it makes your skin glow and shiny, not in a good way. In terms of how my skin reacts, I think oil free liquid makeup is just as good. The mineral stuff claims to be better for skin, but mine, which can be prone to breakouts, does just the same using bare minerals.
I used it but agree that it's wasteful and messy. I use the Loreal mineral makeup now. The container makes for less mess (the powder is slightly more contained) and less waste and I like it better than Bare Minerals, because it has less "sheen". Plus it's cheaper! :)
yeah, i like it until i saw some phots of me wearing it on a night out...i looked really patchy..not good. i have been using the maybelline mineral foundation recently and i am finding that much better...and cheaper!
I used to use it, but it has very minimal coverage and does not come close to lasting all day ( at least in FL weather ). I wouldn't reccommend it.
I am a Bare Minerals addict; I personally have never had any issues with looking shiny in photos. I agree that it could be a tad messy though. They do have some really pretty blush colors and I think the warmth bronzer is a little more natural looking than most bronzers that I've tried. The eye shadow colors are really pretty too, although they wear off if you don't use an eyelid primer.
Maybe go have your makeup done at a Bare Minerals store to see if you like it first?
I like the powder because it's a light coverage and looks good all day. It is a smidge messy but i haven't had too many issues with it. I tend to walk around while i'm buffing in my pajamas so it doesn't end up on my clothes and it sifts onto the carpet though.
I really like laura mercier's tinted foundation for foundation though. It's a good liquid one and very smooth.
I don't like it - it makes my combo skin which isn't terribly bad, just a little oily on my t-zone after a bit, turn into an oil slick. I invested in some nice chanel matte foundation that i only use on the more red parts of my skin, nose and chin, and i moisturize the dry outer parts and voila - face.
I wanted to like that bare minerals stuff. I'm glad I got it at costco, so it was half as expensive for my trial.
Miss Root - i think that your location may be a big help - i see the Florida gals on here have a disasterous time with it. Too humid for it here!
I really like Bare Minerals! I would say that it is medium to heavy coverage- you just have to put more on than they do on the DVD. Although, I do agree that it can be messy. My only real complaint is that it is hard to travel with because the powder comes out of the bottom into the lid super easily.
I really liked using it too! It looks nice and natural, but it is a little messy, I agree.
I wear it for every day use but did buy special makeup for my photos.
If you have oily skin you need to put a layer of mineral veil on first, then your skin's color, then at the end (or before mascara) put on another mineral veil layer. There are also tricks for acne coverage. In some ways it is worse in coverage than liquid but other ways it is BETTER than liquid...once again, though, for pics I'd at least use liquid w/ mineral on top.
You could also try their newer products for oilier skin, I think their mineral veil and I am blanking on the other one, but basically the bottom layer to prep your skin.
I used to use it, but it has less coverage than my tinted moisturizer and is messy. I would not recommend Bare Minerals for its coverage. The makeup advisors from the MAC department store counter helped me choose my foundation.
oh, and different brushes provide different coverage, so read up on the different products, and you can make it work for any skin type
I used it but was not crazy about it. I agree with the other girls that it is messy and does have light coverage (which I need more coverage due to scarring and post acne marks on my face). Also, I think it made my face look sort of weird. My MIL didn't like it either because it settled into her fine lines making them more obvious!
I use MAC Studio Fix Powder and I think it covers pretty well. Haven't found a good coverup though for really obvious spots and things like that.
I use BareMinerals and I love love love it! I have been using it for about 3 years now, it covers great, not cakey. It does get messy if you drop it because it's all losse powder, and thats a pain when it happens, but it doesnt bother me anough to stop using it.
I've never used it, but my best friend swears by it. Like Layla, I use the Loreal mineral makeup and I love it. I can make the coverage light or heavy...depending on what I'm feeling at the time.
I recently started using it and I love it. My skin is VERY sensitive and practically breaks out at just the THOUGHT of heavy makeup. Bare Minerals does not break me out at all. The coverage is light, but you can layer it on to cover more. The only bad thing about that is that it is expensive, and depending on how much you use per application you could run out rather quickly. The MA that used it on me also used the oil-free primer on my face before the makeup. It's supposed to suck up the oil and make it last 6 - 8 hrs longer. I don't know about that, but it does seem to help the oil.
I also have problem skin, oiliness, acne and post acne scarring. It really sucks. Other girls are so lucky to just have smooth flawless faces.
Thank God for makeup!
LOVE it! Have converted my cousin and grandmother. My FMIL and FSIL both used it already when I started and love it, too. It can be messy, but just place a tissue or rag underneath the container on your bathroom counter while you're using it and problem solved! I don't have perfect skin and everywhere I go I get compliments on my "flawless" skin. If the coverage is too light for you, use a bit of tinted moisturizer underneath it as a "primer." Also, if your skin gets oily, use the new matte version. You don't have to carry the powder with you, it can stay at home. All you need for touch-ups is the mineral veil. I will put a quick layer of the mineral veil on after work if I'm going out and it looks like I re-did my entire foundation. It's really great stuff!
i love it!!! i know in pictures when i'm wearing it because my skin always looks smoother / glowing ( but not shiny "glowing" )
i personally recommend it, but make-up is usually not a "one-size-fits-all" kind of thing...try it out or get samples and see how your skin looks, feels, and reacts to it. I have slight acne issues and i feel it covers up blemishes VERY well.. its also light and doesn't irritate my skin.
:) my 2 pennies.
I used to use it and I have problem skin. It actually ended up clogging my pores even more and since it has a shine to it it made my skin look and feel oilier. Now I'm using Smashbox tinted mouisturizer and Nars oil free liquid foundation and I'm liking that better.
And I agree with everyone that says it makes a total mess and you end up wasting a lot.
I have used bare minerals for 3 years and while I like it for every day wear, I prefer to use something with more coverage if I want my make up to last all day and am going to have a lot of photos taken.
I would recommend the skin rev-er-upper as well, for use before applying the powder.
It does make a little bit of a mess, but i usually have a paper towel or tissue that i put on the counter. I think the benefits outweigh the mess
I live in Denver and LOVE it. I have been using it for years and have never noticed a mess. I have black granite in my bathroom and would notice if I did make a mess. I don't love it so much in humid places. I recommend going to a department store and trying it. Keep it on for the rest of the day. If you like it, go back the next day to buy it. If you buy at nordstroms, you can always return it if it doesn't work for you.
I love it! I have pretty heavy acne at times and I just use some Covergirl liquid foundation and use the mineral powder on top and it still feels light. That way I get the coverage I need. Also, I have really oily skin and it keeps my skin from getting shiny all day. It's fabulous in my opinion! :)
I love how it looks, but even though they say it is for sensitive skin, it makes my face itch like crazy right away! So its definitely not for me.
I have been using Bareminerals for around 2 Years now and I love it! My BF LOVES LOVES LOVES IT on me .. he loves that it looks natural feels natural and doesnt transfer off on him or his clothing
It can be a little messy but what makeup cant be when Dropped or spilled?
You will definately use to much of it at first... which is wasteful but it doesnt take long to get the hang of how much to use.
I would say the coverage is sheer to medium.... It can be layered
I have combo skin... I find that it does do nicer than other items i have tried on my oily spots ... I probably use twice as much Mineral Veil as you would normally think but on the dry spots sometimes it can look a little pastey.
A little tip for extra coverage on pimples is to make a paste with a little concealer and water.
