MapleCreekBride:  Well If this is something you want, I hope you are pregnant 🙂 I would let this be a lesson though for you that motherhood isn’t neat. You won’t always be prepared and you won’t always have everything go how you hoped it would. It’s nice to be prepared and in control all the time, but with pregnancy\motherhood it’s just not usually the case. Try not to worry about it. And please update when and if you get a positive test!

I have not been pregnant, but my sister in law has two delightful, inteligent children, one who is almost 5 and one who is 18 months.  Both she and her husband smoke, and she smoked right up until the day she found out she was pregnant with both children (but stopped when she found out.)

At the point where the baby could be when you have just missed your period, it takes a LOT to hurt it.  Most things that go wrong early in pregnancy are less to do with something the mother did, and more to do with the baby being gentically not viable.  And really, what you did is not that bad.

MapleCreekBride:  It sounds like your really want to be pregnant, so I hope you are 🙂 If you truly are 3 days “late” (do you chart? how do you know you’re really late versus ovulating later than normal?) you would most likely turn a pregnancy test positive at this point. If you were sick, as you mention in your post, it’s possible that caused you to ovulate later.

That being said, if you are pregnant, don’t worry about those things. You don’t share a bloodstream with baby that early in the pregnancy. Just do better from here on out 🙂

MapleCreekBride:  It’s so early that none of those things should cause any longterm bad effects.  My mom smoked the first month she was pregnant with my sister because she wasn’t planned and my mom had no clue.  Once she found out she was pregnant she stopped and my little sister is just fine, she’s actually considered gifted.  Make sure you’re taking folic acid ASAP.  Even if you aren’t pregnant this time, you are only a few months from your start date and it’s important to take folic acid while TTC.

MapleCreekBride:  P.s. I had the occasional glass of wine during my pregnancy, I also didn’t know right away (my son wasn’t planned) so I drank (a lot!) and I smoked still because I had no idea (and quit once I did find out), and I drank lots of starbucks, ate too many hamburgers like most young people who are still in college do, and plenty of other things you aren’t supposed to do while pregnant. I lived life normally because I didn’t know not to.  My son was healthy and is now a thriving 9 year old. 🙂 you have nothing to stress about my dear. There’s nothing you can do about that now, so focus on doing things how you want to now. good luck!

Also, I drank and ate crap during the TWW after I conceived my DD (it was Christmas and New Years, after all) and I have a perfectly healthy almost 8 month old 🙂

MapleCreekBride:  If you are pregnant, WONDERFUL and congratulations!

If you are pregnant, do not worry about all those “bad” things you did before you knew. I’m 29 weeks and I drink my coffee every morning. I even forget my prenatal vitamin more often than I’d care to admit but shhhh. Don’t tell anyone. Oh and I crave burgers and pizza like its my job. and sometimes, I’m not hungry at all and I don’t eat a solid lunch.

I promise you those little things you did will not affect your baby if you are indeed pregnant. So unless you are injecting heroine into your eyeballs, or taking large doses of plan b, you really can’t do much to the baby at this stage in the game. Good luck!

If you are pregnant that’s awesome!  But please relax about the other stuff.  You’re not the first woman who would have done those things before knowning they were pregnant. I know someone who drank a lot of wine at their wedding and found out a few days later that they were pregnant. She had no clue and was very upset. Her son is perfectly fine and starting school next year.

Also it could be stress making you late particularly if you are so stressed out and all of these things. The slightest stress makes me late.

Not to be a Debbie downer but I agree with the PP who said if you were pregnant you’d most likely have gotten a positive test already.

However, if it turns out I’m wrong, there’s nothing you could have done that early to hurt the baby, so no worries! 🙂

MapleCreekBride:  I was on vacation. I drank plently, ate horribly and went in a hot tub every night before I found out. Freaked out, but my Ob GYN was like ‘your fine’. It’s cells at that point and not even connected to your blood stream. To be butally honest any damage that would effect your pregnancy during the TWW will cause a miscarriage (or cause you to not get prego at all), not long term birth defects. That’s sort of the point of the TWW. If your body is under duress it just auto aborts the pregnancy. It happens a lot before people are even late.
