I knew they were costly, but I never knew that so many people spent SO much on rings. [like 8k, 12k, +]

lionessa:  I knew they was expensive but I had no idea about cut and clarity ect. Plus I use to think every white shinny stone was diamonds lol.I still can’t really tell the difference haha

lionessa:  I think I had a general idea that it would be so weird to own something that was so small that was over $1000, so in  my mind rings should cost like $500. I didn’t know anything about stone cost, kinds, any of the c’s, what have you. I knew diamonds were pretty, I wanted something different, and that the metal should be white. And that’s about it! Lol!

I was actually a little confused (a couple hours after the proposal) because I honestly didn’t know blue diamonds existed, but I didn’t think my stone was a sapphire. FI did giggle at me for that one.

Yes I’ve always been a jewelry lover and my mom is also very knowledgeable about fine jewelry so i always had an idea of cost and quality

Nope. I figured the average person spent maybe $800 on engagement rings. Then I joined this site and was shocked that the average price on here seems to be around 2k.

All I knew was my 1 ct would be between 3,00 and 8,000. LOL I didn’t know hardly anything about cut/clarity and all that.

No idea. I had heard of the 3 months’ salary rule, but I didn’t know how that translated into ring specs. I think there are probably some waiting bees who know more about rings than I do!

I didn’t know anything about not only rings, but about weddings or wedding traditions or anything! LOL. Thank god for Pinterest seriously… I took a crash course in everything wedding related through obsessive pinning the month after getting engaged.

I don’t know how much my ring was but I don’t think it was more than 2k… Although of course that still seems like an absurd amount of money to spend on a ring to me. But I love it and look at it all the time, so I guess that’s something! 🙂

Oh and I still have no idea about carats, or colour, or… the other things.

Yes, I knew how much rings were at chain jewelry stores.  i loved going through the ads in the Sunday paper, and I’d seen a lot of circulars for local chain jewelry stores.  However, not wanting a diamond made things more interesting.

lionessa:  i knew it could be a lot and i knew about different kinds of cuts and clarity. my mom got me a 1 ct ring for my 16th bday. i never expected it and when my fiance asked me to marry him i only thought of us at our wedding, not what kind of ring he got me. i let him pick it. and let it be within his budget. in the end it is both of our money and our future, i would never want to get something that would be unreasonable. also, he can always make it bigger as time goes on 😉

Nope! No idea. Never had a reason to look into it until my guy hinted at a ring budget
