Well, point one for you since I'm not having a wedding singer. Not everyone on the planet has one :)
My biggest battle was my decision to not have bridesmaids/groomsmen. Perfect strangers want to know if it's because I have no friends. So ridiculous.
@cincity75: LOL @ the wedding singer. I seriously thought, swear to Bob I'm serious & not trying to be snarky, those were like an 80's thing.
You still have a ways to go, and therefore are able to start on the DIY projects now. You'll find out as it gets closer you really won't have time to do some things. My mom & I talked forever how we were going to do cookie favors on our own, but now we realize it isn't realistic & hired someone. But we are doing other things like the centerpieces & a lot of the receptions elements DIY.
My mom has her way we will swing it all the way back to the 60's when she got married. I did when the battle over the veil. I want a birdcage. Other things she thinks I should have: even # of bridesmaids and groomsmen. Wedding pictures after the ceremony. Flowers everywhere. An early ceremony so the Pastor can do his Saturday church.
Things she suprised me with: she is okay with cupcakes. We can roast a pig. I can have a DJ (she loves the idea of a band)
But since I'm keeping my requests to a minimum, it might never get that bad. My wedding theme is "keep it simple, feed them until there full, drink up and dance the night away" lol

Today I began to realize that the battle between what my mom wants and what I want is going to begin. She is wanting to go the traditional route on a lot of things and I'm not so into in anymore. I'm now in my mid-30's and the things that I would have wanted in my 20's I don't even feel the need for. I know that pretty much everyone is going through this from the posts and blog's that I read.
So here is the daily battles for today:
1. Cupcake wrappers: too expensive to buy, pretty much a $1 a piece. But if you DIY them super cheap. In her words "I loved the idea until you said DIY, making 200 + is too much work and we have better things to waste our time on." Battle not over yet!!
2. Wedding singer: I don't want or need one. I want my ceremony to be short as the church will allow. My mom "Every wedding has one", Me: "I don't think its possible that every person wants a singer at their wedding", Mom "No every single person on the planet has one at their wedding". I'm not done with that battle yet.
I think I need to start to write a blog!!
So what is the best battle you have one? What did mom want that you didn't and you got what you wanted? What battle did you lose or give up on?
I'm a good soldier and I need to prepare myself for this war lol
