I lived with my husband before getting married… to me it feels exactly the same. I’m glad you’re feeling happier, though.

Other than being a lot more chilled because we don’t have a wedding to plan, we haven’t really changed much. We lived together in a house we own together for a while before marriage, so it was always unlikely to be a big change.

I totally know what you mean.  We had a civil ceremony in March with our reception coming up in a few weeks.  I thought that without the celebration with friends and family it wouldn’t feel like being married but it totally did feel different.  We also lived together for 2 years before we took the plunge.

Interesting. All my friends, even the ones who didn’t move in together beforehand, said being married felt no different.

It does feel different to me, which is weird because I’ve been with my guy for over a decade, we own a house together, we’ve been committed for life for years, etc. But somehow things do feel more comfortably permanent. In day to day life it’s all the same – but there is a different feeling.

I hope it feels different (even though its fabulous now!) but I’m not expecting it to. We’ve lived together for 8 years (dated for 12), own a home together, share all of our responsibilities and bills, etc. In my mind we’re already married.

It feels different to me too! We’d already been living together and committed to each other, but being husband and wife feels so permanent and mature! My heart skips a beat when I notice his wedding band. Definitely exciting!

@adoc86:  That was our situation too (well, 13 years) and it feels different for us 🙂

@Chelwilly:  Me too, I love seeing his ring (and I totally remember him geeking out over the ring on my hand when we first got engaged).

Yes I felt the same and still do! Marriage feels even better and more committed than living together. I love it!

We lived together for about a year before we got married and it did feel slightly different at first, just more like we were a team and ready to take on the future. After we joined our accounts and set up mutual funds it really hit. Now, whenever something stressful comes up I feel more relaxed knowing my husband is by my side and together we’ll get through it.

Being married feels extremely  different to me, since my DH and I had an LDR and lived in different states when we met and until we were married.  Because of our faith, we also didn’t live together or have a sexual relationship until marriage, so, obviously, that was a huge  difference for us.

We’ve now been married for four years, and I am still discovering new and deeper levels of oneness that have developed in our relationship as a result of marriage.
