Oh wow! He is sooo precious!!!!
Congratulations to you and your husband!!
Thank you for sharing ;)
Congratulations!!! He's so cute!
I laughed a little when you described just getting "skid marks". I immediately thought of... erm... the OTHER kind. I'm glad you didn't have to get stiches regardless, though!
He is adorable!! Congratualations. I love his name too. I bet when he is older he'll think the story of his daddy passing out is hilarious, haha.
He is soooo adorable! Thanks for sharing your story and please put up more pics! :)
aw, the picture gave me goosebumps! so happy for you and your healthy family. :)
Thank you all for the comments!!!
Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I am nursing and he cluster feeds most of the day so I don't get much time to myself these days.
So I thought something had happened, and I was like hm the pictures not showing up.
So I refreshed. And my jaw dropped. WHAT A CUTIE. Congrats!

So Westley is already two weeks old and I am a bit behind in writing this. But here is our birth story...
We had a difficult pregnancy in many respects, but we made it through and he was born at 39w5d. I was induced because they were worried about his size since I had Gestational Diabetes and at the growth ultrasound he was measuring about 6lbs7oz and that was at 36 weeks. I did not think we would make it to term so it shocked us all that he made it that far into the pregnancy. His due date was Oct 29th. His grandpa's birthday is Oct 28th so we were hoping for that, but that is not what was in the cards.
I went in at 8:00 a.m. on October 27th and by 10:00 a.m. I was all hooked up and ready to go, pitocin slowly dripping away. I was already 1cm almost 2 when I went in so I had started dilating and didn't need any help there. I was asked right away if I wanted an epidural and I said I would wait until later. After several hours of an irregular pattern we finally started to make some progress. I had only dilated to 3 by that afternoon and by the time I got to 4 I was ready for the epidural. I have no idea how far apart the contractions were at that point but it was all in my back and I was ready for some relief. I do have a very funny story to share with the epidural and my husband will kill me for sharing this but it is too funny not to. I jokingly told my husband not to pass out when they were starting the epidural. Since that is something you hear about happening. There was a slight glitch and some pain so he had to move the epidural. I have no idea if it was my facial expressions or what...but my husband crashed to the floor as it was being moved. He did not look at the needle at all he was lookign at me when it happened. So of course they had to have a team come and look at hime while I am in the middle of getting my epidural. It was one for the record books...lol. The anesthesiologist asked me if I was expecting it to happen since I said something, I said no, it is just one of those funny things you hear about happening.
They ended up having to put an internal montior on because the contractions were not really showing up well. By around 8 I was at 5 and about 75% effaced. I was loving life on my epidural and could still feel some cramping but no pain. Around 9 I was starting to feel some pain and some serious pressure. I actually pushed my little button that gives it a little kick and was feeling no pain again after about 5 minutes. I asked the nurse when she came in to have the midwife check me. At first she wasn't sure if she should, but she ended up getting her anyway. It was a darn good thing since I was at 10 and 100%. The midwife asked me if I was ready to push and I said sure we can try. So after a few minutes it was definite that he was coming now and she started getting everything ready. About a half hour into pushing you could start to see the head. I had no problems figuring out when I needed to push and when it was done. (My first child I felt nothing from the waist down and spent 4 hours pushing) I got a little frustrated a few times hearing you are doing so good and you are pushing so well that I snapped back at one point and said "Well if I were doing such a good job he would be out already"....lol. Once the head really started to crown it was a couple of pushes and his head was out. I had to wait for the final push a little longer since he came out with his arm in there as well. I have no idea what she did to maneuver him but out he came and she landed him right on my belly. I was lucky and even with him coming out with his arm too I only had skidmarks and needed no stitches.
Westley Reed was born at 10:19 p.m. He grasped my fingers immediately and once he was starting to get cleaned started crying. Daddy got to cut the cord and then I had him taken away to see who won the bet. I guessed he was 8lbs6oz and I was the closest. We all thought he was going to be close to 9 lbs. The midwife guessed 8lbs 13 oz so she was off by a lb. He was so long that he fooled everyone. He was 7lbs13oz at birth and 20 inches long. Here is a picture of our little guy.
