i haven't been (unless you count the 1 day stop during a cruise), but my sister was just there last march fro a week. she loved it! i'll ask her where she stayed and for any other advice. great choice! from the 1 day stop, we went to Goff (sp?) island.....a very tiny island......snorkeled and chilled.....it was awesome and the water was soooooo beautiful.....anyway, i'll get back to you when i get mroe info from my sis.......
I'm interested to see what people say because I am going there in November for our (delayed) honeymoon!
@ladybuglove - THANKS! That'd be great. I've heard the water is beautiful and the snorkeling is great...so I'm in!
I can't wait to hear what everyone says. I've inquired about availability at a couple resorts and they're all starting to fill up fast, so I really need to get on the ball. I'm so excited already!
so here is my sis' review of belize:
<span style="font-family: GE Inspira; color: #0000ff; font-size: x-small;">We had a fantastic time, the resort, Matachica Resort was great, perfect for us. The beach at the resort was great, they had the seagrass where the water began and went out about 20 feet, which was shallow and then it was clear water and white sand. They raked the beach everyday to clear out the seagrass and other debris that washed ashore. After that it was clear blue water with white sand for half a mile out until the reef. That was shallow about 5ft to 6 ft deep. The weather was perfect tanning weather, warm, sunny but breezy so it was not hot, easy to just fall asleep while tanning, which i did. We ate grouper and red snapper everyday, we had chicken taquitos once, otherwise everything else was seafood.........yummy. We went sailing, kayaking, biking and snorkeling. It was a great week, we were sorry to leave <span class="il">belize. Our "casita" was great, it was cute and breezy. Below is the link for our resort.

BTW, if you want me to ask her specifics, just let me know what you need. i'll forward the ?'s to her. that was from an email she sent me. it's brief because we discussed it in person:-)
I went to Belize and had a nice time. I stayed at Robert's Grove in Placencia. I have also heard that Ambergis Caye is very nice. I got see some ruins as well (although not a major site), but that can be a made into a day trip depending on where you are staying. There are many types of activities like ziplining, hiking, etc. as stated above.
@ladybuglove - Thank you! That's actually one of the places I have an inquiry into about availability! Great to hear that it's nice...it's so hard to tell online. Thanks again and I'll definitely let you know if I have more questions!!
@Swan - Thanks! I'll definitely check out that place. I think we'll definitely have to do the ruins when we're there. So cool!
We stayed on Amergris Caye (here). I will warn you that we decided to take the ferry instead of flying to the island to save $$ and it added an extra 4-5 hours of travel time. We didn't book excursions until we arrived. We were able to leave from our lodging via boat to get to the excursions (they picked us up). We did one trip to Lamanai (the famous temple of the jaguar is located here) and one that involved cabe tubing.
Francis Ford Coppola's resorts are nice but a little reclusive.

We went and stayed an Blancaneux - LOVED it. Also loved Belize over all - beautiful, romantic, full of history (Mayan) and cheap! Would go back in a heartbeat.
Also worth visiting Tikal, Guatemala - largest Mayan site. One of my favorite trips and I have been all over!!
We went to Belize on our honeymoon. We stayed at Costa Maya Reef Resort (Time Share Trade).
We loved the Island (Ambergris Caye). The snorkeling was great and the people were really nice. We did a day trip to Xunantunich, which was amazing but a little rushed. The resort was just ok, I wouldn't stay there again.
We had our groceries edelivered by Mata Grande and I highly recommend them. It was so nice to have everything there for us and not have to spend time shopping. The people who own the store are really nice and easy to work with. http://shop.matagrandegrocery.com/

Has anyone been to Belize? We're thinking of going around/after the holidays for a week just to get away. I've got miles that I have to use soon. Any advice on where to stay (beach or jungle, north or south, mainland or island), nice hotels, good restaurants, fun things to do, etc.? All advice is GREATLY appreciated!!
Thanks!
