I've never stayed at the Bellagio, but I loved the MGM when we stayed there. Just be ware that the rooms on the new portion of the hotel are smaller...maybe a little too small if you are staying there for more than a couple days.
Bellagio is my vote! It is really nice, lots of marble, Italian feel. Plus it is centrally located on the strip and makes walking around very easy.
MGM Grand is nice too, but louder, more modern, very Vegas. MGM Grand is towards one end of the strip, albiet still on the strip.
Either one would be a good option, but Bellagio is usually priced higher than MGM Grand so why not take advantage :)
MGM is great. Ive never stayed at the Bellagio, but there really is only 1 casual dining place. There are semi-casual and fancy places, and the food at everything is great. The MGM, I feel, has more variety in terms of restaurant dress codes. Both are great choices really. Bellagio is more central, and is right next the Caesars which has a billion food options....
Spas at both are good. I think it more comes down to where on the strip you want to be.
Bellagio hands down. I have been to Vegas many, many times and it is my second favorite it town.
I have stayed at the MGM and probably wouldn't again. Nothing is wrong with it, it is just huge and there seemed to be more kids there than other hotels.
For what you are looking for, I would go with the Bellagio. I've stayed at the MGM Grand twice and really liked it, but I think the Bellagio would be more relaxing for a honeymoon.
The Bellagio is definitely the atmosphere you want if you want to relax. They are very strict about children and won't them be unaccompanied anywhere in the hotel or casino. Plus their "O" show is really fabulous and it is right in the middle of the busy part of the strip.
The MGM is more geared towards families, so it is pretty loud. It is also towards the end of the strip, so if you want to see The Mirage, Ceaser's Palace, The Venetian, etc. you will have quite a walk ahead of you.
The nice thing is you can always visit the MGM and all the other casinos, but stay at the Bellagio for the nice pool and rooms. Getting around Vegas is pretty easy. You can always walk, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes! Depending on how long you stay, I would invest in a couple monorail tickets if you want to see all of the strip. It is about $28 pp for a 3-day pass. The buses are $2, but it can take awhile to get where you are going. It took us and hour and a half to get to Freemont Street. If you are short on time, cabs are REALLY easy to get (just go outside any of the main casinos and they have a bus line). It is about $18 to take a cab. There is a free tram between Excalibur, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay.
The Bellagio was so cool! Its really nice, and they have the water show. Plus, a great buffet! Which is important to me cuz I eat... a lot. And its right along the strip, whereas MGM isn't. The MGM is technically on the strip, its just set farther back, off the road.
I would definitely say the Bellagio. It has a more romantic honeymoon vibe than the MGM and I think its location is much better on the central strip.
MGM has good restaurants, but I definitely prefer the ones at the Bellagio, especially Olives and Prime (Fix is yummy too, but has more of a loungey feeling).
Bellagio is way nicer.
There is a restaurant at MGM called Diego and it's flippin' amazing.
also check out the Wynn! 5 star hotel beautiful I would say, if you can afford it.... the bellagio and the wynn are my vote!
We're going on a minimoon after our wedding. We're deciding between The Mirage and Paris. Bellagio is out of our price range and the MGM is too far down the strip for us.
I found the Mirage is $85 a night so about $448 for 4 nights which really isn't bad.
The Bellagio. It's classic, beautiful, and so much more romantic. Plus, it's so centrally located.
love MGM, will be there in a month for my bachelorette.. but if i was going for my honeymoon- i would hand down, say bellagio! have fun!
Out of your 2 choices, I would choose Bellagio. It's just a beautiful place. We were just in Vegas and my dad and sister stayed at MGM, it was nice but too big for them. I would throw in an "other choice"- Mandalay Bay. This is where we stayed and we absolutely loved it. It really felt like a resort- especially since it's at the end of the strip and was quiet (which was great for before and after going out to the strip). The pools were great, but maybe the Bellagio ones are prettier. But, it's up to you to choose what you want for the feel you would like. For a honeymoon, I would definitely go with the Bellagio- more romantic! Have fun!
Edit- people brought up a great point about location. The Bellagio is definitely in a better location if you want to go on the strip every night and you are not getting a car. You step out and it's right there, you can walk in either direction comfortably and see a bunch of stuff and not get tired. I really didn't realize how far Mandalay was from the hubbub of the strip until I got there- it was our first time there. But, we had a car, so we didn't mind- valet is everywhere, so it was easy.
The Venetian is pretty cool too. We often stay at the Wynn. Pick a place in the middle of the strip (Bellagio, Venentian, Paris, Mirage, Wynn?). It's easiest to get around that way. I really like Mandalay Bay too, but you have to take more trams or cabs to get to the center of the strip.
@tksjewelry: What is your favorite?
*Sigh* I wish I knew more about Vegas.
BELLAGIO HANDS DOWN! I just went there on a girls' wknd getaway in the Fall of 2009 and it was amazing! Be sure to put in a request to rent a poolside cabana for the day...ultimate luxury!
So, the last time I stayed at MGM my FI and I found blood on our sheets when we checked in.
After complaining a few times, we got a free breakfast buffett.
I'm just sayin'. Bellagio.
Bellagio gets my vote. There is a tram that connects the Bellagio, Aria and Monte Carlo which is nice because there is so much walking to get from one place to another. The pools are beautiful, the service is wonderful, and they have one of the best buffets on the strip (~$30 ea), Botanical garden, amazing art, largest chocolate foundtain in the world (so they say).
Make sure you check with the concierge for the list of what's going on all over the strip while you are there, so you know when the fountain dances and such. They are really helpful.
They're both nice, but the Bellagio is more central on the Strip. Have a great time! The champagne brunch there is sensational!

FI and I have decided to Honeymoon in Vegas (soooooooo many wonderful shows!!!) and I think we've narrowed it down to the Bellagio and the MGM Grand. For those that have been to Vegas/live or have lived in Vegas, which would be the better bet? For the time we're going (late November/early December) the room prices are fairly comparable. We're looking for good food, a relaxing atmosphere, and (me personally) a good spa.
Any suggestions?
