    Do you have one?

I'm thinking about getting one, even though my belly isn't flat.

I have one, but I have had it since I was 15.  I enjoyed it while I was young I guess, but I don't think I would get one today... I guess I feel a little old for it? Not sure.  Anyways, I say if you want it... GET IT! :-)

@amyisnice: I think part of the reason that I want one is that I'm feeling old and frumpy (I'm 26).

I second amyisnice!  I got one when I was 18, my belly was not flat then.  It has been flat at various points since then, but its not flat now.  If you want it - get it!

    I have had one since I was 14. I liked it then, but I haven't worn a ring since 19 or 20.

I got one when I was 18. I probably wouldn't do it again, though. I still have it in of course, but I'm worried about what it'll look like when I get pregnant!

My belly isn't totally flat either, but I think it distracts from it, and makes me a little more motivated to work out :)

Part of the reason for getting on is diet/workout motivation.

I miss mine terribly! I need to get it redone. If you want one, definitely go for it, if you decide you don't like it you can always take it out.

I got one done about a year ago (for the second time. First time I was 14 and it rejected) and it's still in. I find myself sort of over piercings right now but I'm leaving it in just because.

@Gingersnap: I'm not into piercings in general, and would not facial ones (other than ears), but the bb is different.

@kaylee26: Oh I don't mean I'm over them like, as a whole. I meant on me. I used to be really pierced and I'm slowly getting over it.

How long did you have to wait till you could do crunches?

@kaylee26: I'm not sure about crunches, but I couldn't comfortably tie my shoes for a week or two.. but it also could have been because then bar they originally put in was too short. Ick.

I got mine at 18 and went crowd surfing that night at a concert (dumb, dumb self) but I think you could do some crunches semi-comfortably within a week (just wear low shorts and a sports bra so nothing's rubbing/irritating it).

I think I'm taking mine out here soon after the wedding/honeymoon though, because I want it out/semi-healed when we start TTC. That may be something to consider - how long you'd want to keep it before wanting to take it out.

@NDBee: I know that I don't want kids in the near term, if ever, so that's a moot point. I may get tired of it eventually, but it will heal, unlike a tat.

I say go for it! I've had mine for a little over four years and I love it! I think belly button piercings look awesome with bathing suits and this summer is coming up... :) No need for a flat belly to have the piercing, I think they look great on women of all shapes and sizes.

P.s. Don't worry about getting pregnant w/ a belly button ring. If you go to clairs or hot topic or any jeweler for that matter they have clear plastic ones that are super flexible that you put in while your pregnant. Basically it keeps the piercing open while your pregnant and stretches with your body so it's not uncomfortable.

I have one, I took it out a couple weeks ago since I'm pregnant and it has started to pop out of my shirts, like you can tell my BB is pierced. It looks weird, so I took it out and I keep putting the bar in to make sure it doesn't close. That sucker is going back in once this baby comes out! :) Even if it is just for weight loss motivation!

I had a belly button ring done when I was 17 and my sister got hers done at the same time.  I can't remember when but a few years ago the ring fell out and now it has closed over but my sister still has hers.

She says she thinks it makes her belly look thinner so she likes having it in!

I've had one since I was 15 (I'm almost 24 now).  At this point, I think my belly looks strange without it!

When I turned 26 it was either a tattoo or a bellybutton ring before I got too "old" for either - I chose the ring because it was cheaper than any tattoo I'd have been happy with, I can take it out and let it heal if I finally get tired of it, and it took a whole 5 minutes to get it pierced, vs. a few hours at a time for a good tattoo.  I used to bellydance, so it was a neat other place to change out jewelry, but now I just have a small titanium ring in it.  I like it, and the BF likes to fiddle with it sometimes, and while it'd seem that the barbell belly rings would be less likely to catch on clothes and more comfortable, I find the captive bead rings easier to keep clean, and they get pulled by my jeans a lot less.

Also, I'm pretty curvy, so the tummy's not flat, either.

@Isilme: I'm 26 now LOL. Yes, one of the reasons for getting one is so FI can play with it. He doesn't know that I'm planning to get it done.

I got one when I turned 26 to make peace with my jelly belly.

At 37, I'd like it to not be there, but think it looks better than the empty hole.

    It didn't hurt a bit.

I got my belly button pierced about 9 years ago when I turned 30. I still have it, still like and I am still glad I got it done. I have never had a great stomach, but then again, I don't go around wearing belly-shirts either!

The piercing didn't hurt that bad. I was more uncomfortable with the antiseptic being swabbed in and around my belly button than the actual needle going through.

@helenberrycrunch: or anyone else who has taken one out...how long does it take for it to heal? And the skin does close up right? It's not just a hole that stuff can go into is it?! LOL I have had mine since high school and am thinking about taking it out.

got mine when i was 16. it's the only piercing i can honestly say has been in 99.9% of the time since i've gotten it and i'm almost 23.

didn't wear earrings for years, and let several rows close up.

didn't wear my nose ring for over a year.

took my tongue ring out cause it drove me nuts after 2 years.

had nips pierced VERY briefly. was a tad rebellious in high school.... that's another story.

belly button? in, all day, every day. with the exception of changing it out.

    @Melini:Me too!
I got mine at 26 and it totally helped me kickstart my weight loss.

It made me feel pretty. Turns out I needed to feel pretty *first* in order to have courage to lose weight. Go figure. I have a nice flat tummy now, but had a little pudge when I got it pierced.

Ps it takes almost a year to fully heal and 6 months for it to stop hurting when you bump into it.

My (then) boyfriend really was excited that I was getting it but then it annoyed him because it hurt me and he couldn't play with it.

Now I can't feel it at all and I love it and he loves it, too.

I got one when I was 18 and took it out when I was 21 - I was over it.  I say if you want it, go for it, but I want to make sure you're aware that it's not guaranteed to heal closed when you take it out.  So, if you get it, make sure you're OK with having a hole in your belly forever.  Mine never fully healed - you can still see the little hole (although it's closed over on the inside).

    @kaylee26:no joke!

Also, as for crunches-- I saw my personal trainer within days of getting my piercing. It hurt, but honestly most things hurt, so I just suffered through it.
