How many people are you trying to accommodate? If I knew the size of your party, I might have some other suggestions.
Well we've been telling caterers it's 200, but so far right now we have 187. Since it's just for ceremony and a Friday and knowing our family... about 100 people will attend the ceremony then the rest will show up during the reception. Thanks for your help.
The Julia Morgan Berkeley City Club has some smaller rooms that would be good for a ceremony that aren't too expensive. Have you also asked at the Durant Hotel? The East Bay Parks System has cheaper places than just the Brazilian Room; I'm thinking the Shoreline Building and they've got one in the woods... ah yes, here's the link, the Temescal Beach House and Fern Cottage. They rent pretty cheaply.
Also, for the life of me I can't remember the name, there's a club building (pretty) on Cedar between Spruce and Arch and I know they rent to private parties. I don't know how much they cost. Anybody out there remember the name?

If you don't mind a few minute drive, Mills College in Oakland off of the 580, has a really nice looking chapel and surrounding. I think it's pretty cheap there too. A lot of weddings happens there. (i don't get any profit for this suggestion at all, i only know of this place because I've been to a few weddings here) Hope it helps!
@cheerful, is it the Hillside Club you're thinking of? That's right around there---photos are pretty though I've never been inside.
@CLER, you might check out some of the UC spaces on campus---there's a list of some at http://asuc.berkeley.edu/ and I know there are others. Could be a tough time of year for that, though, since that's right around Commencement.
The Mills chapel is gorgeous, though it's a bit of a drive to downtown Berkeley. It's $800 to use for a ceremony (we scoped it out too!) The Unitarian Universalist Church in Kensington is also really nice, and would hold that many easily...it's just past the Berkeley border and I think isn't too pricey.

Mills College doesn't rent out during the weekdays. I liked the place, but too bad no Fridays. =(
Still checking things out. Gonna check out Hotel Shattuck tomorrow since they do ceremony alone. We'll see. Pricey side, but not bad.
Ok we checked out the Hotel Shattuck Plaza which was recently renovated. Inside was nice. They have two ballrooms, the Crystal Ballroom which can fit up to 200-300 people, I think. Then the Boiler room which can fit up to 180 people for a ceremony. I think we've decided to do this hotel because it's just right across the street of our reception venue. And BART is just there, how cool would that be that people can take BART to a wedding, heheh. Great photography location too!
For ceremony price up to 5 hours
Crystal Ballroom-- $1000 plus $270 for audio
Boiler room --- $800 plus $270 for audio
all includes: DOC, chair, staging, drink refreshments
the only CON for us is that we have to start our ceremony 3 since we have to be out of there by 4pm. S'all good. Yay!

We need a ceremony venue around the Berkeley area. We already have a reception which is in downtown Berkeley. It's a long story and right now... I've been searching and searching for an indoor wedding ceremony venue.
