FI and I love to play board games but we find that most of the ones we have are really boring with two people. Our favorite is Scrabble, but...Scrabble with two people is just bland, haha, so we save that for when we have friends over.

But we need some that we can play just the two of us. So bees, what are your favorie board games to play with only two people?

We like Sequence and Blokus.  We also like Parcheesi and Monopoly but of course those are better with more than 2.

If you like Scrabble, Scrabble Slam is fun too.

Do you guys like playing cards? Or are you strictly board gamers?

@BayStateBride: The only playing card game I really like is Solitaire, on the computer, haha. Not really a big fan of card games...sucks because I know there are plenty of two-player card games, but they just get boring after a while for me.

My husband and I play "Life" all the time!  It works with 2 players and (while not exactly the most challenging game) it is fun!  It actually gets pretty cute...my husband has a knack for landing on all the "you had twins!" spots, and he'll run out of room in his "car" gamepiece for all the little people pegs...ad he'll start piling his kids into my car!  And when I landed on the "you got married" spot one time, he put a little blue peg into the drivers side and moved my pink peg over.  I asked why and he said "I am a better driver, you know this!!"  lol It gets some fun bantering going back and forth. :)

Oh...as a funny bonus, you can get the anniversary ediiton.  There are special tokens you can win that say things like "make a household rule for the day", "plan your next big adventure", etc.   Those always turn into slightly naughty fun!!

If you don't mind unconventional board games...

Lost Cities is a fun card/board game for two players. Settlers of Catan is great for a group and can easily be adapted for two players with a quick Google search.

Also - Small World is general fun and fantasy and has a two-player board, and is great for grops up to 5.

I will second Settlers of Catan, also Carcassonne is great for two players. I've heard Ticket to Ride is good but we haven't bought it yet. We have a Harry Potter lego game that is fun, also was fun to put it together. Munchkin and Munchkin Quest can be fun for two players (but is better for a group). I know you don't need group game suggestions but Betrayal at House on the Hill is an AMAZING game if you are into board games.

For non-card games, we like Blokus and Scrabble when I can get DH to play. I enjoy playing Trouble with my stepson ;)

One of my aunts gave us 20 Questions (the board game, not the electronic one) as an early anniversary gift, and it's pretty awesome. We don't actually use the board...we just use the cards and add up the points. DH is not a fan of board games at all, but he seems to reallly like this one.

Whoa, so many good suggestions!! Thanks everyone!

For those who mentioned Settlers of Cataan...FI and I actually played that game the first night we met IRL, with a mutual friend and some of his housemates. The game went on for like three hours and the only reason I did not throw down my cards and storm away crying from boredom is because now-FI was handing me the cards every time I needed a new one and I got to keep brushing his hand with mine :P so Settlers is definitely not my favorite. But all the other suggestions sound good haha!

@Juliepants: I clicked this thread just to say Battleship! LOL. Mr.ND and I love battleship!

Monopoly is also fun (but admittedly better with more people). And the game MasterMind that @creativeplannertobee: mentioned is AWESOME :-)

Battleship, Mastermind, Jenga, and Blokus! One of our favourite (and most expensive) was Scattergories. It's seriously so fun to play with two people, we can never stop laughing when we play! Our cheeks get so sore ;)

Ooho, I forgot a game we used to play all the time. Mancala is a fun game when you get the hang of it.
