We are making cuban sandwiches with our left over pork tenderloin tonight. We can’t get Cuban Bread in our area & I’m not about to make it from scratch today – too busy with wedding right around the corner. We ended up buying challah because its so delicious & hard to pass up those golden loaves at the store. But I wonder what the best substitute really would be from any Cuban sandwich enthusuasts?

Italian hero rolls and french bread are close in texture and flavor.

Whole Foods makes a panini roll that would work. Also Hawaiian bread which is slightly sweet, like Cuban bread.

Polish bread comes pretty close, but I don’t know where you can get it. I first had Cuban bread in Miami and the Cuban family I was with recommended the Polish bread for when I didn’t have access to the Cuban bread. Well, the only place I ever had Polish bread was in Miami and we don’t have it here! Bummer. I think the next best thing would be Italian bread.
