On top of jewelery, a belt, and a purse for the day of, the bride and groom took the entire wedding party to a music festival to see Guster and Jason Mraz!  Super fun!

Both weddings I was in, the brides (my friends) gave me really nice gifts.  The first one was a white gold neclace with a pearl, and from the second wedding I received a cute Guess purse.

I got a GORGEOUS turquoise necklace (real local turquoise, made in New Mexico close to the wedding location).  It wasn't 'wear on the day of the wedding' jewelry either, which I always find to be a cop-out.

I haven't been a bridesmaid yet, but I like to think that one of the gifts that I am giving my girls is going to be a great gift. My Grandmother hand makes jewelry. She is going to make all of my girls a pearl necklace, with real freshwater pears, strung on silk, with a silver clasp.

I was also thinking about giving all of them one of those Olay face scrubbers. I have one and I absolutely love it. I still haven't decided on that one yet.

    I love all the pearls.

I have yet to receive this (mostly have gotten day of jewelry), but I love the monogrammed waffle robes. I've seen them a bunch, and I would love one.

My favourite gift was a huge shell and sterling necklace that my friend picked out just for me.  It wasn't for the wedding; it was just a beautiful thank you gift that completely suited me.  I wear it all the time.

To be honest, I'm really not a fan of gifting BMs anything that is to be used the day of...IMO it's not a gift...it's just a part of the bride's vision and isn't really a thank you gift.

EDIT- I shouldn't have said that I wasn't a fan of gifting "anything" that is to be used the day of.  I just think that when you give every girl the same necklace that they have to wear day of, that's not really for them, but is for the bride.  A gift should just be something that you think the receiver would like; not something that is going to be used for one day.  They already have a dress they probably will not wear again.  :)

I've never been a bridesmaid, but I'll chime in and say that I've heard people say they appreciate jewelry that's not necessarily for the day-of.  I got my BMs different jewelry that suited their tastes and I think they liked it.  I also made a "Bridesmaid's Survival Kit" which everyone seemed to get a kick out of.

I agree with PP that "self serving" gifts for the day of is not really a good gift.

I am planning on getting Marc Jacobs make-up cases with my fave products(Burts Bees chapstick, Essie nail polish, Desert Essence Hand Lotion) for the BMs and for my MOHs I will get them either a Clairsonic MIA, a Marc Jacobs wallet with the above gift.  Still shopping for stuff and looking for the Bees for great ides!

My sister gave me a Michael Kors watch that I still wear every day (she works for the company, so got a great deal, I'm sure).

Really, any gift that you put thought into and is tailored to your girls' taste or interests is a good gift.

The worst gifts, IMO, are the standard-issue BM gifts that require no thought whatsoever (i.e. generic monogram tote - sorry, I know these are popular) and/or are intended for use the day-of (i.e. cheap jewelry that matches the BM dress).

The best gift I got was a necklace that has become my most common piece of jewelry and a jewelry box. It was just a simple silver heart necklace, but it goes with everything I own and I really like it. Actually, in that wedding I wasn't even a bridesmaid, I was just doing the reading. I was so shocked to even get a gift at all, let alone such a great present! I got another, fancier necklace (dainty crystal snowflake on a gold chain) in a different wedding that comes out on special occasions, and a DIY nailkit that I used for years.

One really good one and one really bad one:

Really good one was a giftcard.  I know that might seem SUPER tacky to some of y'all, but the bride got each of us a different giftcard to a different store, depending on what we liked.  Mine was for Anthropologie, which I obsess over all the time and all the other bridesmaids were THRILLED.  It really touched me that she knew each of us well enough to know exactly who to give what to, plus it was way more practical than a necklace I'd probably never wear again (I don't wear a lot of jewlery).

Really bad one:  Remember what I said about how I never wear necklaces?  The bride got each of us a REALLY cheap plastic bead set (the kind I played with when I was 9) and ordered us to make necklaces for her wedding in exactly the right shade of red.  I had to start over because mine wasn't good enough for her!  I would have much rather her spent the 5 bucks on a 5 dollar Anthro gift card!  At least I don't suck at shopping lol.
