amex hilton awards - no annual fee and hilton doesn't have blackout dates for its rewards.
I'm using a Chase Sapphire Master Card which gives me cash back or allows me to use a credit toward my bill. Or get gift cards. Otherwise, I use my Starbucks Visa, allowing me to get credits on my Starbucks card to make Starbucks purchases..
I've heard great things about the Starwoods rewards cards as well, which would be great because I love their hotels, but the rates seem kind of mediocre.
We got a new Platinum Amex card right before we got married. No annual fees, pretty good rewards, and we can use the points on a variety of things (hotels, plane tickets, gift cards, etc...). The thing I like most is that there is a free "concierge" service that helps you make big purchases like travel, electronics, etc... We just booked plane tickets to my in-laws house through the concierge service, and my ticket was free. We paid for my husband's ticket and got a free companion ticket just for using the service. Also, when we bought our new computers (a MacBook Pro and an iMac) we notified the concierge service of the purchase; they automatically give you a 5-year warranty on certain electronics you buy with the card so we're covered for at least 5 years in case anything happens to our new Macs.
We have a Chase Priority Club card. If you join the Priority Club (free), you can get points for staying at the chain of hotels affiliated with it- Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites, Staybridge Suites (our favorite since they have reasonable rates and a full kitchen!), etc...this was especially helpful for me and FI since we had a long distance relationship for a while there.
Anyway, by opening the Priority Club card, you get an extra 1500 points, and everytime you make a purchase, the points rack up. You can use those points for a free hotel stay or airline points. They have a really cool system where if you use their affiliates for things like buying flowers, jewelry, etc, you get all sorts of points.
Our honeymoon hotel and plane rides are almost entirely covered by the points we've accrued!
Plus it's got relatively low APR, no annual fee- it's an all around great card, especially if you travel.
Chase. I've had great customer service with them. I've had stuff i've had to refute, etc, and they do it ASAP. i used to have a bank of america card and when they filed for bankruptcy I called to cancel and the woman laughed at me and mocked me and told me somebody lied to me. No joke, a week later it was all over the news. i was pretty pissed that i had to tell her like 5 times to just cancel my F*ing card! Whereas Chase has been superb in handling things for me, verifying charges, etc
I have an AMEX through Costco, and I love it and would highly recommend it - the annual fee is $50, which also is the membership fee for Costco. Along with the obvious benefits of using it for the awesomeness that is Costco....we get 3 percent back for gasoline purchases and eating out, 2 percent for travel expenses and 1 percent for everything else! =D
If you're outdoorsy at all, I recommend the Cabela's card!! You get points towards Cabela's purchases, so pretty much I haven't paid for anythign from them in a couple of years, and I shop there a LOT.
I have the AmEx Starwood card and I absolutely love it. You get 10,000 points when you sign up. I usually redeem using "cash + points" where for around 4000 points and $50, you can get one night's stay (depends on the hotel class and location, of course). It's great to know that some of that can possibly be used for the honeymoon!
I've heard good things about Amex. We've had a little bit of trouble with our Citicards customer service, because they are really good about fraud stuff (just maybe a little over the top!) We have the AAdvantage card to get miles for our international trips, so it's worth it for us! When you open a new credit card you get double points for a year, but you can also enroll in a bunch of other programs to earn points. We are all about saving up for travel!
I also have the AMEX starwood card. Love it!
@krissycake, CHK- so if you pay your annual costco fee of $50, does that also cover the credit card fee then? I actually live across the street from costco so I buy practically everything there...may just look into that one!
These recommenations are great you guys!! Keep them rolling! It's so nice to hear there are some great cards that give you a little back for what you spend!
@ejs4y8- I have a B of A card currently and while it's sort of a plain card, I actually haven't had any problems with it at all. They always increase my line of credit if I put in a request or if I have any questions they are pretty prompt in getting back to me. Though you are definitely not the first person to complain about their customer service!
I have a TD Bank Aadvantage Visa... it gives me 1 mile for every $1 I spend. Every time I book directly through American Airlines I get bonus miles (usually double) & they add up really quickly. I've scored over 5 free flights over the past 4 years (including regular flight miles too-- not ridiculous spending habits lol) and I've upgraded a handful of times for free too.
If you travel a lot, or plan to, definitely get a airmiles reward card.
@ Miss Burgundy -- Yikes! Hopefully you have checked this out, but yes, the $50 does pay the annual fee/Costco membership in one. =) I was on a WB hiatus and just stumbled back upon this thread!!
I am a Capital One card holder, they are pretty good, I've redeemed points for gift cards and things, They are very quick to send rewards, and they are very helpful, one time I was charging a lot online, something I didn't normally due, and they called and asked if it was me making the purchases. They were afraid my card had been stolen since it wasn't a normal activity for me.
I have a Best Buy Platnium card and love it. It is tied to my Reward Zone membership and increases my rewards amount.. We shop there A LOT so it is perfect for us. It gives extra points when we use it at best buy... I havnt actually paid for printer ink in over a year... That in itself is amazing for me... I print A LOT... So I go through a lot of ink.
I have an AMEX blue card and I really like it. I rack up rewards but haven't cashed them in yet.
chase-amazon.com they send you gift certs to use towards your purchase. Who doesn't love amazon.com, plus their APR is pretty low too. Never had an issue with Chase (their mortgage section..thats a whole other post! LOL)
Also have the Southwest card through Chase. I haven't paid for a Southwest flight in a very long time...love free flights :)
@Fiftyfoot- completely agree!
However as long as you are dilligent about paying off the FULL balance every month it can be a good thing because it boosts your credit score. Plus with the cards mentioned here you can get neat bonuses too! The important thing is to be responsible about them :)
I am in love with the American Express Blue Cash card. You don't have to keep track of points but get an automatic cash back for your purchases annually. I just got about $400 back for the past year (I put my tuition on the card). It starts out earning 1% at gas stations, grocery stores, and drugstores and .5% everywhere else. After you spend $6,500 in a year it goes up to 5% at gas stations, grocery stores, and drugstores and 1% everywhere else. Plus the customer service is great. I had 4 cards stolen last Thanksgiving and they blocked the transaction because the thief used the wrong zip code. Now they ask for a zip any time I go to a store I don't usually use.
Amex platinum HANDS DOWN... we get perks EVERYWHERE and even our honeymoon room was upgraded to the tip top level! It's seriously so worth it.
I agree with fiftyfootbride, no credit card is the best! I just paid off ALL my credit cards debt! And I feel like a brand new woman!! LOL
Yeah, now I just stick to using my parents' credit cards. Moochy McSpoiled. :p
I had 7 credit cards about 3 years ago, and I ended up just paying the 22k balance to get it out of the way.
By I, I mean my parents. lol. I had a little self-control issue along with my first real job.

Do you have a credit card with a fantastic rewards program, or maybe really good rates? Please share here!
My student credit card got converted into just a really basic card with very mediocre rates and no rewards programs so I am looking to open a new one!
