A number of Bees have suggested Dreams Puerto Vallarta and I'm totally diggin' it but after looking at the website, I think I may be in love with Dreams Punta Cana. Each Dreams resort I look into seems better than the last so naturally I want to go to all of them. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen so we really need to narrow it down.

To those who have been to a Dreams resort, I'd love to hear (err, read) about your experience.

The Dreams  Villamagna Nueva Vallarta was amazing!  It's also in PV.  The room (cheapest one) was sick and the restaurants were amazing.  We went in October and it was not supper busy.

@heather25:I've been eyeing that specific resort. Two questions, did they have a swim up bar in the pool? And I've read somewhere that it's not on the beach and you actually have to take a shuttle to the other resort, what were your thoughts about this? Is it not directly on the beach?

    Thanks!

@srobinson:  No swim up bar; just poolside service.  And it is directly on the beach.  In fact they have infinity pool that overlooks the beach.  AHHHMAZING.

@UpstateCait: Also, I am going to the Majestic Elegance (Adults Only section) in Punta Cana.  Not a Dreams but it looks fantastic.

I noticed that you're from NY.  Have you considered going to the Yucatan Peninsula (aka "east coast" of Mexico)?  That area is very easy to get to from NY & we've been to a couple of the Dreams properties there that we'd recommend.  However, Dreams resorts are family-friendly & not adults-only.  Just something to keep in mind for the honeymoon!

You know my opinion on Dreams PV :) Just a note about timing... we went in October as well and the weather was amazing! It was the "rainy season" which means it rains about an hour each afternoon and thats it. We chose PV because it was on the Pacific coast which was important to me due to it being hurricane season (and me being a totally huge worrier). Also, in October when we were there we didn't see a kid the whole week. That was just our experience of course.... but it does make sense that since it is only 2 months after school starts its not a big family vacation time.

also, i'm super jealous right now. I wanna go on another honeymoon! lol

@CorgiTales: Agreed about the weather and the children. A t Dreams NV, not a kid in sight for most of the trip (maybe an infant and a 4 year old the entire time).  Also we had NO rain and beautiful 85 degree weather.

We had researched a lot about Dreams and were set on Dreams Riviera Cancun - the rooms looked great, the swings bar on the beach, and the ocean toys looked like so much fun!  We even booked a Preferred Club OV room with jacuzzi on balcony, but recently changed our reservations to Secrets Maroma mainly because of all the children complaints and because Secrets Maroma's rotating taco cart on the pool deck haha.  The "children" factor didn't scare me at first, I work with kids and love 'em, but people were saying they couldn't even get seats all the time at the swim-up bars because kids were playing on the stools - and I saw pictures of this on TA.

The 2 PP stated they didn't see kids much at all so I wouldn't let that scare you.  They all look wonderful!!! Dreams Punta Cana looks beautiful, I'd just be scared about the recent cholera outbreaks (which is probably FINE now, but I can't get it out of my mind).

Dreams Puerto Vallarta looks beautiful because it seems a little lush around the area and it's got depth to it's land features around it, rather than just a flat beach.  I bet you'd get some beautiful walks and pictures there!  Let us know what you choose :)

i went to Dreams Tulum for a friend's wedding.  It was lovely.  The beach was beautiful, the rooms were great, they had awesome restaurants that didn't require reservations.  The whole place was just really really nice.

We went to Dreams Nuevo and loved it.  We had a jacuzzi tub on the deck (I think all rooms have this) and an awesome tub in the room.  Food was great for the most part, and the staff was amazing.  We really loved the resort as it was on the smaller side and easy to get places.  Taxi's were very reasonable, around $10USD to get into town.  There were not many kids at the resort at all.
