I bought my dress at Alfred Angelo and I was really impressed with the selection of dresses that they had in my size range to try on. I wear a street size 18/20 and my dress was a size 18W. They just came out with some new designs too, so check them out!
I am very happy with my Private Label by G gown. I also liked Maggies, Alfred Angelo and Allure when I was trying on gowns. I'm pretty confident you'll like the slimming effect of the asymmetrical waist. I feel like I really don't have a waist and as soon as I tried on a dress with that waist line I decided that my dress would have that.
Cool beans, they will definitely be on my radar, unfortunately they don't have any in TN/northern MS where I am from, but I'll try them on locally to see if I really like them... A lot o their styles I do like though. This is my fave AA dress...

oh my i found another one that has actually made me gasp (EEEE!!!!) this is 2043!

JojoBananas - I am ALSO a Private Label by G bride!!! I LURVE my dress!!!!! :)
I also purchesed an Alfred Angelo (1148W) and was VERY happy with the fit, design and price of AA dresses. It is also good to feel that you are buying a dress in your street size, without having to go up 2-3 sizes :)
Bonny Bridal has a beautiful line for plus size called unforgettable, very very nice!
Alfred Angelo has beautiful gowns and look awesome on full figured ladies. You've inspired me (along with WB adding a Plus Size Board) to write an article on Full Figured Brides.
I just came across plussizebridal.com so you might want to check that out. I'm a 16 and landed on Pronovias Helena. One dress I absolutely fell in love with the picture was from the Mori Lee Julietta line.

@beav: bumping because you were absolutely correct about alfred angelo!! you rock!!!!!
I ordered a mori lee but did have to go up a whooping 4 sizes uuugggghhhh totally depressing
What is your price range? I'm a size 16/18 and I got a Kittychen which i'm just in love with!

It's a mermaid dress. I have it smushed onto my curves, soon I wil have it to try on, will put up picture then

Her stuff really flatters a women's curves! www.kittychencouture.com
@TP: love it!! i found the dress of my dreams at alfred angelo. i still will go shopping with my mom but i am pretty sure that it is the one.
Wellllll... I'm a 32e (or 32ddd if you prefer) with a 27" waist... however, because of my bust I had to buy a bigger size (obviously). I got a Mikaella, which flatters most everyone I would believe. Mine is the 1367 if you want to look it up, though it looks different on than on the model!
They're also relatively affordable (mine was $1300). I love it, maybe you will too!
@tp Thanks!!
@msashley; awesome info and man your body is like STACKED!!! your fi goes insane i bet lol!!!
Here is the dress that I chose (keep in mind I have lost a bit of weight since this picture, about five lbs or so)
Wow, crebre!! BEAAAAAAYOUUUUUTIFULLLLLL!
I too am an Alfred Angelo gal. I loved how the dresses felt so classy, and well made, but the price was awesome. i got the R112 for about $900. Love it.
Alfred Angelo has a good selection that you can try on. I found that Bonny Bridal can make a plus size dress that will knock your socks off though. They seem to know how to flatter the shape.
@crecre You're too funny! I know though. I don't know where my boobs came from. I'm 5'7", but my mom is 5'2" with 34A's... haha. Oh genetics!
BTW, that dress looks awesome on you!
Oh girl you look GAWGEOUS!!! I luuurve the dress!
My goal is to drop 10lbs before I go shopping - which may bring me down to a 14 (gonna try to resist the urge until the summer though!)... but I have no idea where to start either! I'm liking Nicole Miller dresses, which go up to a 16, but not sure how they'll actually fit me... But I'm interested to know if any of you plus sized gals have had very simple, not too full skirted or fabric-y dresses? I'm looking for something more drapey and flowy...
i'm a mori lee bride...beautiful, simple lines and within a nice price range. The ruching helps hide the more difficult areas and the a-line skirts are all in all very becoming. Dress photo below...
i am hoping to loose quite some weight, but the dress seems like it would be really easy to take in, so i'm not too worried. also, the back is corseted, which helps hug the body in all the right places. :)
also as a side note, i had some good experiences with Casablanca as well. :) Good Luck!
Once I go dress shopping I will post pics because I am a 18 on bottom and 14/16 ontop in womans and I am a 40DDD uptop as well. Thanks for the pictures ladies!
@msashley: my mom is totally like 5'10 and AAs on a good day lol!! We have no idea where I get my curves because she has only recently became curvy she was itty bitty when I was growing up.
I had 3 dresses for my wedding (eek! I know!). I can get into the details about that with you some other time! :) But, the dresses I had were from:
Bonny
Maggie
Alfred Angelo
The Bonny was the 1st dress I bought - I fell in love with the sleeves. The Alfred Angelo was a tea length for the reception. Then...I fell in love with the Maggie. I ended up creating 1 dress out of 2 (The Bonny and Alfred)...but anyway...this is a long story!
What I wanted to comment on was THIS: Bonny has their Unforgettable line which are dresses made specficially for plus sizes. They take into account things that a curvy gal might need in certain areas. BUT, the BIGGEST thing to me is that they will send ANY dress to ANY store - as long as they have it in stock, I thought that was AWESOME!! When I ordered the Maggie I was flying blind! No one had it in my size so I took a chance!! But it they had told me oh we have it in your size it can be in next week with not pressure to buy I would have said HECK YA send it!! But, THEY do not do that! (pffttt!). Bonny does and that makes me :)
Try the Unforgettable - I saw a preview of the new Fall 2010 coming out....OMG!!!! Might have get married again! :D LOL...some serious love!
i am now an alfred angelo convert :)
I am more full figured and every Maggie Sottero dress I tried on looked gorgeous! I ended up going with the Angelina dress and can't wait to see her again!
The corset is just so unbelievably flattering!
@SATIN: i tried angelina on and really liked her. The only thing that caused me pause about her was the bling at the chest and on the black, I thought it was a bit too formal for our wedding...
i gasped too, AA 2043 is the one!!
@soon2bnjersey:lol i ended up with a preowned casablanca :D

As most of you know I'll be beginning my dress shopping within the month (eee!!!) Do any of you have any ideas designer wise? I am pretty curvy and full figured at the same time (larger frame hour glass)
I really am hoping to find some great Maggie Sotteros my current top contenders are
Angelina
Holly
Ellen
Vivien (ooohhh la la)
I am also on a budget right now (isn't everyone?!) Are there any designers better suited for a larger figure other than Maggie? I will probably go to Davids to try on a few mermaids, but I wasn't impressed that they didn't have the dress I wanted to try on and couldn't order it for me to try.
