You need a matte primer. Becca makes one. I would use milk of magnesia FIRST then the mattifying primer and then your foundation.

Hourglass mineral veil was good for my skin back when it got slick. Also, spray on Urban Decay De-Slick before puting on your primer and again after all of your makeup is on.

I second the Urban Decay De-Slick! I also found that I could not use the regular Smashbox Photofinish, but Photofinish Light worked perfectly for me.

Another thing, (maybe this won’t be the same for you) but I used to use as little moisturizer as I could and foundation made for “oily skin” to combat oil and wondered why my face would appear even more oily.. I gave Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation a try and used a tiny bit more moisturizer (along with UD De-Slick before and after foundation) and my face doesn’t get nearly as oily anymore!  I was unknowingly drying my skin out so it was producing more oil to keep itself hydrated.

I have combination skin and i love the Smashbox primer! I use Mac photo finish coverup, so maybe this combinationis a good one because i can go all do with next to no oil. I used to carry blot sheets and touch up my coverup numerous times a day!

vlzaccaria:  Neutrogena’s Shine Control Primer works really well for me.  I pair it with Estee Lauder’s Double Wear foundation and if it’s really humid out, I finish it off Urban Decay’s De-Slick Oil Control setting spray.

vlzaccaria:  milk of magnesia can go on before everything and helps keep your face very matte if you have oily skin. Google it and you will see lots of stuff : )

gelaine22:  +1 to milk of mag. Also smashbox or monistat chafing relief powder gel (same but way cheaper) work best as primers for me.

OP, if you’ve tried primers that work well for other oily bees and you still look cakey and shiney, then it doesn’t seem like primer is the issue. Try milk of mag first, under primer and then try switching up foundations. I love hourglass immaculate liquid powder foundation with just a touch of kat von d lock it foundation underneath.

Also- do you use setting powder? That can make a big difference too- I love Ben nye banana powder. With a light hand.

I had a few threads on makeup product tips for oily brides a while back that might be helpful if you find them.

i second the chafing gel! i use it and i love it!

i also use a long wearing foundation and for an extra boost of staying power i use urban decay de-slick setting spray.

i have very oily skin and my makeup stays put thru oil, sweat, humidity, everything.
