I really like edible favors because I am a piggy! I liked these chocolate and sprinkle dipped fortune cookies I got at one wedding, with custom fortunes that said something along the lines of "Thank you for sharing our day! Love, Bride's name and Groom's name". They were yummy and cute! From winery weddings, I've liked the wine stoppers couples sometimes give, because we actually use those.
I got a cute jar full of a cookie recipe people could bring home and make with people they love. I thought it was unique and memorable.
I went to a wedding where we got tins of mints with the couples pic on the lid. I LOVED it. It was super handy to throw in my purse. I refilled it a couple of times too. Its the only wedding favor that I've really hung onto.
Mints are such a great idea. I never would have thought about that. But I did think about putting mini polaroid pictures on the inside of our tins with goofy pictures of the two of us. Here's a pic of the tins I made myself using craft supplies from Michaels.
Cookie!!! The cookie was in the shape of her wedding cake and the same flavor too. It was frosted and really pretty.
The groom made over 100 jars of apple butter--canned them himself. They made tags on the front that said "Spread the Love," including their names and the date, with fabric and ribbon on the top of the mason jars. Unbelievable!
kitchen timer! so useful for cooking, laundry, timed practice exams, nap alarm clock..
The last wedding I was at they gave out Honey Bears with their monogram and 'Life is Sweet' on the label. So cute!
I've never had a favor that I've used... unless it was something I could eat!
I would remember something like these! http://www.findgift.com/gift-ideas/pid-66186/
My sister gave each guest a half bottle of champagne as the favors at her wedding. It was a little pricey, but a HUGE hit! (We have a family who likes to drink!)
My friends did cute heart-shaped Pez dispenders with their names on them, and then had a candy buffet to tie that in (with Pez candy as well as other fun stuff). It was whimsical and fun and fit their style completely!
I agree with Pengy, anything edible! Food is the most practical thing you can give people! Especially if they are from out of town, they will enjoy having a snack for later! I always enjoy the frosted sugar cookies with a couple's monogram or in the shape of their wedding cake. Yum!
shot glasses!! i remember the wedding whenever we bring it back out during parties! then we take a shot for them!
Here's a related question: Do you notice when favors are NOT given out?
What are your thoughts on charitable gifts from the b&g instead?
Is it tacky to do nothing?
@ Buffy - I think there is so much going on that most people wouldn't notice if they got a favor or not. Its a really great thing to do, but I don't think it is completely necessary.
At a wedding I was at I got a card stating that a donation was made to a charity and I felt really good about that...
A cookie in the shape of a wedding cake. It had their initials on it and was decorated just like their cake. Yum!
I personally think a luggage tag is pretty useful, especially for out of town guests! But seriously, you can never go wrong with food!
I really want to do chocolate-covered strawberries since they go with our colors and theme, but I haven't figured it all out yet:
A) Do we have the time?
B) Do I really have the time?
I feel like free food, drink, and entertainment is a favor enough, anything additional is just icing on the cake :) Our favors are doubling as escort cards. Much like someone else mentioned, we're making mini jars of grape jelly (one of our colors is deep purple) and putting "Spread the Love" stickers on them. We're also attaching a tag on a ribbon that says the person's name and table number. The only funky thing about this is, I wish we could make one jar per couple, but with escort cards you can't really do that.
I got a tin with buckwheat pecan pancake mix in it and the directions pasted onto the inside of the lid. It was awesome.
I think edible is the way to go. Even when I have received something useful, it usually ends up sitting somewhere random around the house and gets tossed out in 3 years.
The only non-edible favor I would go for is matches. I know they are old fashioned, but it is always useful to have a little matchbox.
I'm also on the "edible favor" wagon. I do notice when favors are not handed out but don't think there is anything wrong with no favors and or donations as favors with a short blurb that explains. My sister donated chocolates as a favor and we made a donation to Penn States "save the honey bee" research .
I love edible favors as well. My wedding is Champange and White. I was thinking about small jars filled with flour, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon. (all dried goods) with the recipe to add the other ingredents needed to make a small batch of cookies, with someone you love. I love to bake, but everyone, does not...
Is this practical? Help me out ladies. Thanks and Happy planning.
Yeppp - edible! Or drinkable...take your pick!
I love having a snack to take home with me! We're thinking of doing a dessert buffet, and having take out boxes (cute ones of course!) on the table so everyone can pack up a slice of cake, pie, cookie, etc on their way out! Yum!
My maid of honor did food and made it local. She used jars of Sanders' Hot Fudge that doubled as place cards. Because my fiance and I walked out with two, we had ice cream sundaes for about three months! We are doing a candy buffet because when I first mentioned it, my Dad's eyes got all big and excited. He thought it was a great idea.
Remember that a lot of your family and older folks may have not been to a wedding in years. Anything like donations (love the voting token idea!) or a candy buffet is new to someone who isn't spending 12+ months looking at wedding blogs!
I received a slice of wedding cake and it was the BEST wedding cake I ever had it was almaretto and hazelnut.... and i loved candy from a candy buffet I went to.
I got a cute heart shaped wine stopper at my cousin's wedding a few years ago and I still use it to this day.
@GothyBride2B:Yeah I liked the wine stoppers I got too! I used mine up to today as well.
