@veganglam,
The biggest one is the Flower District in Midtown
HERE's a great article with mentions of a couple different specific stores depending on what you're looking for.
I've also heard great things about Chelsea Flower Market.
We're coming in Wednesday night so I'm actually considering now if I should order online rather than having to rush to Midtown to purchase the flowers on Friday. My brother's house doesn't' really have a extra fridge for me to keep the flowers.
Awesome! I had no idea there's a flower district. I had heard about the Chelsea Flower Market as well. Thanks! I'm looking forward to checking them out. Have you comparison shopped at the markets to see how much cheaper it'd be to do your own as opposed to ordering online, if at all?
Not the markets at NYC yet. Over the summer (August) I did a mock trial with flowers I purchased from a local wholesale florist to me (Upstate). I'm doing Gerbera Daisies and the florist had them for $1/stem! SUPER cheap, even cheaper than the cheapest online I found (which was Sam's Club for me).
Driving down to NYC Wednesday and with the wedding being Saturday, although the flowers I bought over the summer still looked good by day six they were definitely not a their perkiest. So I nixed the idea of buying it where we live and transporting it to NYC via a cooler.
I would def keep a running tally of how much the flowers you want to use cost per stem on any of the different flower sites. Then I might call the shops in the Flower District and ask them how much their flowers are. But I would consider asking them if they know approx how much they would be in January (month of your wedding). I don't know what flowers you're using so they can be not in season, etc.
But I've also heard the little flower shops in the district aren't great about answering phones calls and are generally closed by 3PM. Do you know anyone that lives in NYC and can go check them out for you?

Anyone have suggestions for a flower market in NYC? There are so many and I'd like to hear recommendations for which have the freshest, least expensive, and widest selection of flowers. I think I'm going to do my own floral arrangements and I'd love to hear some bees' opinions on where's the best place to shop!
