What is the best food you ever had at a wedding? Are you including it in your own wedding?
I have to say the food at my wedding but I am biased :) So I will say a wedding we went to last year that had filet with melted boursin cheese on top. We had the same thing but it was a duet entree with chicken picatta also. But I am going to 3 more weddings this year and the next one looks like its going to have some GOOOOD food!
Mmmm great thread! I went to a wedding that served a sort of upscale BBQ (tri tip, grilled turkey, that kind of stuff), and it was awesome! They cooked the food on site, so you could smell the bbq being cooked during cocktail hour. I loved it! And I suspect that it was a cheaper option than a plated meal.
i'd say my food tasting (since my wedding hasn't technically occured), but maybe i'm biased. strangely nothing sticks out in my memory. the sad part is that catering for large groups of people usually results in deteriorating quality just because of the challenges. man... does this mean i'm spending all that money on our food for nothing?
Unfortunately, my first "wedding food" thought is from the last wedding we went to. It really wasn't very good. At all.
The food at my aunt and uncle's wedding last year was really good but other than smoked salmon I can't remember any dishes!
I've never had great food at a wedding. One of our friends had filet mignon at their country club reception that people are still raving about, but we couldn't make it. :-/ I'm hoping ours will be good. ;)
omg a hazelnut amaretto cake with chocolate european buttercream. it was the wedding cake and they gave it to the guests for favors. it was amazingly good.
i can't remember ever realllly enjoying wedding food! i do recall enjoying a chocolate fountain at a wedding once!
Hmmm.... well my SIL had a bbq that was awesome. If we renew our vows, I totally want to do a bbq wedding!
The best food I've ever had at a wedding was last weekend...and it was actually at a surprise vow renewal in Disney World. Great flatbreads as appetizers. Individual pasta and salads. Family style entrees with salmon, filet and chicken. It was all amazing.
Also at a non wedding related event (but something I will always remember), I went to the grand opening of a Container Store and they had fantastic appetizers. They were all served in the stores products...so the serving trays were things like cork bulletin boards...or candy was served in jewelry boxes. It was amazing. They had all kinds of fun stuff like mini grilled cheese with tomato soup shot glasses...warm cookies and milk... Nom Nom Nom.
I need to be coming to weddings with you girls! Here in the WI it's your choice of broasted chicken or tenderloin tips...neither are appetizing.
Um...is it wrong that I KNOW it's going to be ours? We had our tasting exactly one year ago, and it was among the best food we've ever eaten -- and the mister and I love trying new and amazing restaurants in the city! I can't wait to have this delicious food again! And share pictures of it with the hive!
Not really food, but Mrs. Kitten had delicious alcoholic mini-milkshakes at her wedding. The waiters passed them around towards the end of the night. So yummy!
bruschetta - I think it's awesome that you are so confident in your vendor! As a Philly bride, I'm definitely excited to see pictures of your wedding and your food!
I absolutely love Thanksgiving - the turkey, cranberries, stuffing anything with butternut squash... I went to a fall wedding once that served Thanksgiving foods as the dinner. I was in heaven.
The cocktail appetiers including a full raw bar was pretty amazing at a friend's wedding a few years ago!
Oh my gosh, there was a wedding last year held at this restaurant...we had the most amazing steaks. It seems so "blah" and routine, but it was seriously the best steak I've ever eaten. And the appetizers were jumbo fried shrimp with some killer dipping sauce. No idea what it was.
I really want to return to that restaurant again. Seeing as it's only about 45 minutes away, I don't know why my FI and I haven't gone back. Maybe it was just me who loved the food so much!?
I never remember food from weddings. So I'm thinking that I've never had anything too terrible or super delicious.
Hands down, the food from Latrobe's on Royal in New Orleans. Sooooo yummmmmmy!!!!!
Last year at my cousins wedding I had the best duck I have ever had, followed by an amazing steak. Yum YUM!
One wedding I went to last summer had filet mignon and lobster for each plate!! But honestly i didn't eat it, I was too busy drinking!
But I had my site visit in Aruba 2 weeks ago and did a food tasting...YUMMM!!! It was beef tenderloin and chilean sea bass (which is my fav fish!). check out the pictures on my site:
The best food I've had at a wedding was hands down the dessert at FI's cousin's wedding. In addition to their cake they had balls of icecream dipped in white chocolate it was A-mazing.
I was pretty stunned by our food. The tri-tip was to die for and the ceaser was one of the best I've ever had! Oh and the butternut squash ravioli-- that might have been my favorite dish!
Having said that, my sister had a baked brie dish at her wedding that was maybe one of the best cheese things I've ever eaten. It was phenomenal. It was like baked brie with a warm apricot sauce. Oh my goodness!
Also, one of my buddies had a filet mignon at his wedding that was probably the best filet ever. They had to skip cake in order to afford such good meat. It was a good sacrifice in my opinion.
My best friend got married in NYC, and she had Abigail Kirsch cater the event. It was not only one of the the best meals I have had at a wedding, but in a restaurant, and I am a huge foodie. The cocktail hour had three carving stations, a pasta station( Al dente mmmm), and a salad station. The entree was a filet of beef cooked to order and Chilean sea bass. The filet of beef was better then I have had Ruth's, Mortons, Del Friscos, Peter Luger...I can go on forever about the food. All NY brrides out there check her out, but she is $$$$$$$.
I have been to two weddings that had the most amazing dishes. First, at my bf's wedding she had the most tender filet mignon. It was the best steak I have had so far. Her cake was also so delicious.
My future SIL and BIL had a TON of food at their wedding and all of it was delicious. I think my favorite from them was the chicken and spinach tortellini (first dish).
OK, I am super hungry now! :)
The VENETIAN in New Jersey !!! I believe Miss Martini is getting married there.
It has THE BEST cocktail hour ever with more than 40 different things including a vodka ice shoot, raw bar, sushi bar, pasta station and other stuff. AMAZING!
Oh my god, my cousins wedding last year - her food was unreal. I had a gigantic (seriously..it was 20oz, like 2 inches thick) rosemary and herb crusted filet, baked brie with raspberries and raspberry sauce, garlic wasabi smashed potatoes (smashed =YUM) and some green beans...that was just the entree, there were dozens of apps (passed and stationed) and an even larger dessert selectoin. It was actually WAY too much food, I could barely move, but it was the best steak..yummmm
I am a HUGE fan of cheese, so any wedding that has a giant cheese plate at the cocktail hour totally wins with me!
I was at a wedding last summer in Rome and there were about 6 buffet tables of appetizers (this was before a 6 course meal!) and it was all homemade, fresh Italian food - it was truly amazing. I've never seen food like this at a wedding before or since - it was soooo good and there was piles & piles of it!
Ooh, I forgot about one wedding I went to in Oakland that was the BEST Chinese banquet I've still ever been too (and this was like 10 years ago)!
It made me really want Chinese banquet for my wedding... but since I accidently ended up marrying a white guy, it probably made less sense ;)
Best dinner had to be at FI's cousin's wedding. It was buffet style and had really good pasta salad and the most tender roast beef.
Best hors d'oeuvres from another of FI's cousin's weddings were scallops wrapped in bacon. Mmm, I love my bacon.
This may sound bad, but I think the thing I liked the most was the pasta at our wedding. We had this wild mushroom sacchetti (little pasta "purses") in a garlic cream sauce that was to. die. for.
My second favorite was at a rehearsal dinner--the groom was from North Carolina, so it was a big BBQ.
I always like bacon wrapped scallops at weddings, so we are including these at ours. :)
our friends had filet at their wedding...it was like buttah! We still talk about it!
fried chicken and mashed potatoes! They also had two kegs. Not my stlye, but the best wedding food I've ever had!
Mexican food. Hands down. I attended a casual beach wedding this summer that had 3 kinds of amazing tacos, guac and chips and quesedilla. It was very simple, but absolutely delicious.
Since I don't eat meat, the wedding food I have had in the past has been really blah. Pasta with herbs and oil.
However, two years ago I went to my friend's wedding his also a veggie and the food was AMAZING. Eggplant parmisian. I couldn't finish it!
I've actually never attended a wedding that served anything beyond cake. But I recently attended a 50th anniversary party (does that count?) where they had a local Hawaiian bbq restaurant provide catering. I've never been a fan of Hawaiian bbq before but this spread to die for. The best macaroni salad known to man and I usually don't eat it when anyone makes it, tropical fruit platter, huli huli chicken, kalua (sp?) pork, yakisoba noodles with veggies, fried rice, egg rolls, coconut shrimp. They also had a pan of homemade mac and cheese for the kids that was brought in separately and not provided by the restaurant.
my bestie had some amazing food. i remember there was these little potato appetizers that were so yummy but i was only able to have one. such a bummer. apparently it was more important to be in the pictures instead of stuffing my face. lol.
they also had some awesome paella too. the caterer was excited to make it and went all out.
I've never had good food at a wedding!!
I've always been served cold, under seasoned food! I know ours is going to top it because the food was our number 1 priority. I would wear a potato sack dress if it meant my guests left fat & happy! People always remember bad food...
