I admit to being shopping challenged. I hate going out and having to fight through crowds, trying on clothes in cramped changing rooms, dealing with inept salespeople, trying to make a decision, all of it. Alas, my two pairs of go-to jeans for the past five years are both in tatters and a new search is now unavoidable. I'm hoping you can give me some recommendations so I can at least go about it with a strategy.

I'm 5'3", thin waist, hips and thighs are problem areas. I find regular or low waist, hip hugging, flare leg jeans are most flattering on me as they seem to elongate my legs and make my shape look more more proportionate. Doesn't seem to be 70's style super flare, but wider than boot cut. I'm not limited on price, I'm sure whatever I spend will be worth it since I'll wear them for at least 5 years again.

It may sounds a bit crazy coming from a 23 year old, but I LOVE Coldwater Creek's jeans.  Most of the rest of the store is a bit "older" for my style (although I do occasionally find something great) but I love the jeans.  They're normally about $80 each (although I got 2 pairs for $28 each with a bunch of sales/coupons after Thanksgiving).

I also have larger thighes, hips and a butt so jeans shopping is normally a huge pain (I HATE having to try on 50 pairs to find some that even remotely fit) but I've had great luck with Coldwater Creek.  Check them out!

@Mrs.KMM: Thanks! There's one in the mall near my work so I'll check it out. I don't think I've ever heard of this store before, but like I said, shopping challenged here...

I usually like American Eagle's jeans because they fit really well but I haven't been a huge fan of the styles lately so I've started to look more at Lee jeans.

Paige denim is my favorite. I'm 5'4 give or take, and I can wear them with 4" heels without alterations.  I'll wear them as "going out"/heels jeans for awhile and when they start to wear at the hem I get them altered to wear with flats.  They've got all different fits, but the Laurel Canyon is a good in between boot cut and flare.

My fav jeans OF ALL TIME.

7 for all mankind... "the skinny"  - I have them in every color.  I adore them.  They look good with everything and they snap back right into tip top shape in the wash and dryer.

American Eagle jeans are my current favorite. They make me look thinner than I am, their "short" length is almost short enough for me, and they're affordable. They are very low rise, which I'm not a big fan of, but they fit so well everywhere else that I deal with it.

If you're up for spending some money, Joe's Jeans are amazing.

i'd check out the gap long and lean jeans - they have a leg opening that is slighly wider than a bootcut jean and they look great on a lot of body types. good luck!

My favorite jeans of all time are Hudsons boot cut.  Pretty much all my jeans are now Hudsons.  they make my legs look long and the flap pockets make my bum look super perky.  Also Nordstrom Rack very often has them at great prices.  Otherwise you can find them at Nordstroms.

My runner up is the "Angel" style from AG Jeans.

I love my 7 for all Mankind.  They are all I buy anymore.  Watch for the sales at Nordstroms - you might be able to get the bootcut for close to $100.

I've tried lots of designers, and Citizens of Humanity always fit me the best.  I've got a very similar figure to you, and COH flatters my butt/hips/thigh area better than other brands.  Yes, it's expensive, but they'll last you for years and they wear really well.

I wear either Rock Revival jeans or BKE's. My faves! I would say that as a girl with a booty I find American Eagle jeans to be hard to wear because I end up with such a big gap around my waist.

I'm going to add another rec for Gap long and lean. I'm 5' with a smaller waist and bigger hips/thighs. I'm also like you in that I HATE clothes shopping and will keep clothes until they are absolutely unwearable. I love the way they fit me... And they lasted me 6 years!! I bought them in 2004 and they have finally worn themselves out.... *sigh* Time to suck it up and stock up again! :)

@meliss: I'm surprised you're 5'3", you look taller in the pictures i've seen of you  in your dress, which are stunning by the way. I too am a GAP jeans girl and long and lean fit too, they fit me the best, as my bum and hips are my problem areas.

You guys rock! I found a great shampoo by posting here, and a doctor, I knew the Bees wouldn''t fail me for clothes :)

Some of the brands mentioned here that are not associated with a specific store (e.g. Seven, Citizens of Humanity, Hudsons, True Religions), should I look for them in regular dept stores like Macy's and Nordstrom's?

Best jeans are 'the keeper' ''the once I was' by sass and bide. I have several and even tho they cost quite a bit of dollars I have had them more for a couple of years now and they still look as good as I bought them. http://www.sassandbide.com/#/e-boutique/denim/D1SF10481 'the keeper'

and my all time fave the 'straight up'

Ha ha! I had to read Ebony to find jeans that fit me that did not have 'Apple Bottom' splayed all over the butt :( I wear PZI and Mavi because they fit me the best. I got them on sale at Macy's. I also wear DKNY sometimes but the fit is not quite as good :(

I have the same body shape you described and it's such a pain to shop for jeans.  I used to love American Eagle (boyfriend cut, I think?), but because my inner thighs are an issue, they rubbed together and I always got holes in between my legs.

I found a pair of J.Crew jeans at an outlet this summer and I fell in love.  They're the matchstick kind and they fit so nicely.  The cords do too.  I never thought I'd wear the slimmer type jeans, but these elongate my legs and just look really nice.  And they are definitely better made that AE!

@meliss: I noticed you're from the LA area....they have tons of sample sales during the year for both Seven for All Mankind and Citizens ....and tons of other designer brands. I'm signed onto this website.

    http://www.thewarehousesale.com/

You''ll get emails when there's a sample sale in the area...this weekend they have a Rock N Republic sale in OC...its definitely sample sale season....forget department stores...the last Citizens sample sale I went to, i got a 3 pairs at $60 each. It helps that both Seven for All Mankind and COH are based in LA.

    Good luck!

I just wanted to chime in and say that I just bought a pair of Levi's and I LOVE them.  I'm also 5'3" and find my thighs and hips are problematic for me.  They're boot cut, dark blue colored, and super soft.  They also have a really great fit in the back.  They're low rise in the front, but the back comes up just a bit higher than other low rise jeans I've worn.  I don't have to constantly pull them up in fear of a muffin-top or my underwear peaking out.  They're the most flattering jeans I own (IMO, I haven't actually asked anyone else).

Gah!  I've never loved a pair of jeans so much!  Also!!!  They were on sale at JC Penny for $19.99.

ETA-  I just noticed on the tag that they're called, "Too Superlow".

@meliss: If you're looking for jeans, try out The Blues Jean Bar located in Santa Monica. It a store that carries different brand of jeans from such as 7, Citizens, etc. I recently visited a store near where I live and they make jeans shopping so easy.

Step 1: Tell them your style

    Step 2: Tell them yourside

Step 3: They bring you all jeans that matches your criteria.

I recently bought a pair of skinny DL1961, although it doesn't have flashy pocket like the one I have, but it's sooooooooo comfortable .

Wow...I'm so excited that so many people love the same jeans as me:) 7 For All Mankind and Citizens are my two go to jeans!! I love them. I just got a pair of Paige jeans which I'm excited to wear(in Laurel Canyon) and I have a pair of True Religion. Also, I have a pair of AG and they're nice too. You have to go try them on and see what works for you though. I will tell you how each fits:

7 For All Mankind- These tend to get bigger as you wear them, so stick true to size or even go down a size if you are debating or in-between sizes.

Citizens- Tend to run smaller so go with the higher size if you are in-between.

True Religion- Pretty true to size.

You can find great deals on these jeans on Ruelala and GiltGroupe. I just got a pair of Paige Laurel Canyon from GiltGroupe for $99!!!:) Saved me eighty bucks!

I want to second (third? fourth?) Gap jeans. I had a hard time (at first) paying $80-90/pair because I'm thinking "It's the Gap, not Bloomingdales," but they fit amazingly. I've had a few pairs of Seven jeans that I like at first but they are just not made as well and tend to fall apart within a few months of wearing them.

I've never bought Seven jeans because i hate having to get them shortened.  they don't come in 30" length do they?

I'm going to chime in and agree with multiple posters. Sevens are the only jeans I wear anymore. I have tried on and liked Paige jeans, True Religions look ridiculous on me. I've heard Madewell (offshoot of jcrew) makes awesome jeans as well. I try to buy my sevens from nordstroms because of the return policy, I once ripped a pair two years later and they took them back no questions asked.
