In the general Monterey area, you could consider places like Asilomar Beach, the beach in Carmel, Lover's Point, the beach near Pebble Beach, and The Lone Cypress.
For Big Sur, the Post Ranch Inn is gorgeous, but a bit pricey. Check out Ragged Point Inn.
I would consider looking into a vacation rental like one of these. They have great views for your elopement and then you get a nice place to stay too.
What do you think of Mission Ranch Inn in Carmel? It's the property Clint Eastwood owns. That looked really cool and I read it's across the street from the beach and the prices looked good.
@Iluvmydog: That is our favorite restauant in Carmel. We were just there two weeks ago when we were in town. You could stay in one of the cute cottages too. Would be beautiful for photos too.

My FI have looked at hundreds of places to elope and nothing is calling to us. We've thought of Lake Las Vegas, Savannah, some place international, but my friend recently posted photos of her trip to Big Sur, CA and I was in awe. After thinking about it, I thought that might be a great location. We both would like to have a ceremony in front of water and a scenic backdrop and Big Sur seems to have that. But, I've never been there so I don't know what is the best area. I know there is Pebble Beach, Carmel, Monterey, etc.
Now we think we've narrowed it down to wanting to get married in CA or in that vicinity but we don't know where. I was born in LA so I'm familiar with that area (but not anywhere north of there) and was also thinking Malibu as an option.
For those that are familiar with the area, what would you choose? Big Sur, another area in the Monterey vicinity, Malibu, or do you know of a better place. And is there a specific location you would recommend that would help us narrow down our choices?
