Yes, that is it. He is THE best friend of my fiance and he has got hernia. And our wedding falls during his recovery period and he won’t be able to travel. I know that getting someone else to be the best man is the obvious thing to do but Mark and him have been friends from childhood. So it is not easy for Mark to replace him with something else. I am not asking for advice on whether to change the wedding date or not, obviously that is not going to happn. I just wanted to share it here with fellow people who are getting married and know what you all want to say. I may make me feel better.

Nobody needs to replace him. Your best man deserves that spot & your guests will understand! P.S. My husband’s name is Mark as well ..good choice 😉

Could you film his speech in advance and play it at the reception? You could either do it openly or as a surprise for your FI?

That sucks. I am sure he is really frustrated, too. When you get a date for surgery, you have to take it. I made the mistake of declining a date for my hernia operation, thinking it would e problematic for work, and then I ended up getting one that was even more problematic, plus I had the hernia for over two months more, which was unpleasant.
Everything will work oout fine, of course. It just sucks he can’t be there. 🙁

Just gives you a reason to celebrate with Mark once he’s recovered!

Thank you for the support and advices. Well bronging him to the wedding is not an option as we are getting married at Texas and Ryan is undergoing his hernia surgery at Shouldice Hospital, Ontario. We will miss him and he is very upset about it too, but his parents are at Toronto and they want to be with him during the surgery.
@cpick I really like your idea of filmong his speech, thank you so much for that. And yes, that is gonna be a surprise for Mark. I am going to talk about it with Ryan, I am sure he will be extremely happy. So thank you so much…
@stepanie I know….

That sucks so much- terrible timing!! I love the idea about recording his speech as a special surprise for your husband though! My sister’s father in law was in the hospital for their wedding so they made a special speech about him and called him from the reception. Maybe you could Skype with your best man?!
