The Mission Ranch. It is a gorgeous property that looks out across salt marsh straight to the beach. Groups of little bungalows for lodging and a good restaurant too. Tennis courts as well. Place is owned by Clint Eastwood.

I’ve been there several times for food (but never stayed there) because my grandparents are in Carmel.

It depends on your budget….. If you want to be near Fisherman’s Wharf and not have to walk I would recomend The Portola Plaza Hotel.  If you want to be on Cannery Row, the Monerey Plaza, the Intercontinental both have AMAZING views. However, it can be kind of touristy being on Cannery Row.

A cheaper choice would be the Best Western on the Beach. It’s off of the Del Rey Oaks exit on Highway 1. Nothing fancy about the hotel, but the beach is literally behind the hotel. You can hear the waves crashing at night, sit on the patio (I’ve seen dolphins).

Carmel is nice too….lots of shopping and great food.  Carmel beach is also very pretty. There are lots of bed and breakfasts and hotels. Just keep in mind if you’re looking for Carmel that there is Carmel by the Beach and Carmel Valley. If you want to be near the water chose Carmel Beach. If you want to be more inland and in the valley (very pretty, always warm and sunny) look at Carmel Valley.  Carmel Valely has a couple really nice wineries if you’re into that!

I hope that helps, and If you need any other suggestions just let me know!

@oracle: Carmel Valley Ranch is also beautiful. Look slike they have golf, tennis, and spa treatments as well as pools etc. I’m pretty sure I’ve been there for lunch and it was very good. It’s more “tucked in the valley”.

Last time we were in Monterey we saw an add for a place that looked amazing: http://www.ticklepinkinn.com/  I haven’t stayed there so I can’t give a personal review, but it looks pretty.

The cottages at Mission Ranch also come HIGHLY reccomended by my co-worker who grew up in the Carmel area.

I just did a weekend getaway to Carmel Highland Inn (Hyatt). It was really nice. Ocean view, fireplace in the room, and the lounge had a breathtaking view.

Totally agree with Shoeaholic.  The Park Hyatt/Carmel Highland Inn is absolutely breathtaking.  Even if you don’t stay there, have brunch at the cafe on the outdoor deck that overlooks the ocean and cliffs.

Awww Oracle congrats on your upcoming wedding and can I say you have great taste!

Hubby and I got married in October and honeymooned in Monterey too. *sigh* Maybe it’s an Angeleno thing? Smile

You’re going to have such a great time, especially if you drive up there.  So pretty!!!

We stayed at the Monterey Bay Inn linked below:
