At ours, the BM mentioned how he's known the groom forever (since little kids) and how he's even marrying his cousin! Nobody laughed, and some of my friends mentioned they thought it was kind of strange he brought up HIS fiance at OUR toast. I was pretty oblivious, though.
Our BM speech was great. My husband had 2 BM (his brothers) so they shared lines. At the end they put together a sentence referencing all the tv shows I watch that DH hates. Something like 24 hours of gossiping girls prison breaking out of one tree hill :)
My MOH speech was a little disappointing to be honest. She didnt have anything planned or written down. It was very short, I was hoping for a few cute jokes or a funny story I guess. I know she was nervous but I just hoped for a little more. Speaking of, I am a MOH next month and have to make a speech and have NO CLUE what to say. Ill be super nervous too but I want my speech to be amazing :)
I was at a wedding where the best man started the speech with "i just flew in from Australia and boy are my arms tired" (complete with a coordinated 'bum bum ching' from the band). It was downhill from there. He then went on to say how "great it was to be here at this fornication- i mean- formal occasion" and then read an email from 'Willy' a friend that couldn't make the wedding but was really excited about meeting the bride later. Yeah 'Willy' is the groom's nickname for his gentleman area.
OH NO! HAHAHA. That's awful.
My husband thanked my parents for making such a beautiful product. Everyone was laughing so hard they had theirs in their eyes. He was like, "i didn't mean it like that!!!" and i keep giving him crap. "You coulda said DAUGHTER! but you said product".
I still can't believe he wrote a letter from Willy! Man. I hope the DJ pulled the plug!

My MOH (my sister) prepared one of the most beautiful speeches I have ever heard. She brought in so many aspects of our lives, our parents and my relationship with my now husband. She nearly had everyone in tears. So many people came up to me and said to get a copy of it and frame it because it was one of the most beautiful things said by one sister to another. I have to admit - she really did surprise me. I didn't think she had it in her :)
One of my cousins got married several years ago after finding out that she was pregnant. She was only 18 and her husband was 19. The groom's 17-year old brother was the BM, and his speech was a hugely inappropriate joke that goes something like this:
So, the other day, my brother and I were walking around the drug store, and he stopped and pointed at a shelf and said, "Hey, what are these?" I looked at what he was pointing at and said, "Those are condoms." He then said, "Ok, but why do they come in all of these different packages?" So I explained to him that the two-pack is for when you're in high school - one for Friday and one for Saturday. The seven-pack is for when you're in college - one for every night of the week. And the twelve-pack, well, that's for when you're married. One for January, one for February...
It was possibly the most uncomfortable few minutes of my life.

My fiance was a best man last summer and he was very nervous about giving the speech. He brainstormed it most of the week before the wedding but didn't finish writing it until they were taking photos after the ceremony! Regardless he pulled it off flawlessly with a touch of humor and many kind words to the bride and groom. What amused me the most was that despite the fact that he finished it so last minute people were coming up to him all afternoon commenting on what a great speech it was and how wonderful he was, etc.
I can only hope he pulls off the same magic when it comes to writing his vows for our ceremony!
