I have a Fiskars and I really like it. I definitely recommend a rotary blade (well, I really recommend a ruler and xacto knife but that's not the topic here
) over a guillotine style. They aren't nearly as reliable.
If you're not going to be doing a lot of custom cuts, you may even want to take your paper to Staples or Kinkos. They should have large electric cutters that are precise and can do it all at once.
I also have a Fiskars as well and love it. My only complaint that it tears some types of paper in you aren't careful if its too thick or your blade is getting a little dull. I also have a rotary blade and a sewing mat that works for larger pieces of paper (you follow the lines..) because I bought the smallest one they had. If I had to do it again, I think I would buy the one that fits a 12x12 piece on the board because it makes things easier when you have to cut 100 pages of paper.
I'll tell you which one NOT to get:

It's also Fiskars, but the little blade moves & creates a slanted cut. Always! I've never had a straight, clean cut! I bought this one for small jobs & it just sucks.
I have this one too - LOVE it!! I've had it for a few years and have never been disappointed. It's a Carl.
I am using the guillotine type, works good for me, and never have to replace any blades...it's like 10 years old, still going strong
I have a Fiskars too and love it, though I suggest the rotary cutter.
RE: The cutter that luckyyou has - I used that cutter (my inlaws let me borrow it) and it IS AMAZING! Super straight lines on heavy cardstock, no frayed edges, nothing. I tried keeping it hoping they would forget about it but I had to give it back :) What brand is it? I need to get my own!
I have a fiskars rotary..but they no longer sell the replacement parts for it at michael's which is super annoying. It needs a new cutting pad. Make sure whichever one you get will be around for a while so you don't have to hunt for parts!
Thanks for the advice, everyone! I'll definately keep this all in mind when I next head to the craft stores!
@naangel55: It's a Carl brand one. I have had it for a few years and LOVE it! Love my Fiskars too.
FYI - I found the 15 inch Carl paper trimmer on Amazon for $90 new.

Hi everyone,
I've been lurking here for a while, picking up lots of useful tips, and now I'm getting to the point where it's time to start my own DIY projects (getting married in June!!) and I had a question- what is the best paper cutter to get? I'd be using it mostly for cardstock/paper/etc. I've looked in both Hobby Lobby and Michael's, and the array of choices is quite bewildering. So I'd appreciate any advice you experienced people may have!
Thanks!
