We are getting ready to book our honeymoon and we were looking at Sandals properties, Couples proerties, Excellence properties, etc. However, I spoke with a travel agent and he told me that the Couples resorts were cheaper and were actually better than the Sandals resorts he had been to. What do you think? Have any of you ever been to Couples, or Sandals resorts? If so which one and did you like it?

I want to know too! I made the mistake of reading some “terrible” and “poor” reviews on TripAdvisor for a couple resorts (including a Couples one and a Sandals one), and now I’m worried no matter where we go it won’t be as perfect as I hope… But we’ll see.

I’ve been to Couples Negril and Excellence resorts! OMG.. I love Excellence…. Not that I didn’t enjoy Couples Negril though. I just remembered that Excellence was so romantic and dreamy.. and the shows were fantastic, as well as the food. I’m actually looking into a little honeymoon for FH and myself too. I’m seriously considering Excellence again.. or Secrets.. or Dreams resorts! They’re all amazing.

My fiancé and I went to Couples Negril this past October and LOVED it. The food was excellent, the resort was beautiful, and the beach was perfect. I’ve never been to a Sandals, so I can’t speak on that. One of the best parts of Couples is that there are a ton of water activities included in the price, including scuba diving, snorkeling, sunset cruise, kayaking, etc. Those things will really add up if they aren’t included in the price. Couples is opening a resort in Barbados, and we had such a good experience at Couples that we are already booking that for our honeymoon.

I had to same problem, But after doing a ton of research and reading all the reviews on Trip Advisor etc I decided to go with Secrets Maroma Riveria Cancun. I honestly think you can’t go wrong with either sandals or excellence. We almost booked with excellence Punta Cana DR, but Man the Secrest resort Maroma just looked to good to pass up. And Since being in Mexico it was a nice price. My sister stayed at a Sandals In St. Lucia and had an amazing time! Check out Trip Advisor and see all the guest pictures and read the reviews. It really helped me make my final decision…but it helped that Maroma was ranked #1 out of like 200 LOL. Either Way You will have an amazing honeymoon!!!! Good Luck 🙂

We stayed at Sandals in St. Lucia for our honeymoon and we loved it, BUT…We ended up paying extra for lots of side trips, and we totally did NOT take advantage of all the on-resort stuff (neither one of us is a big eater or a big drinker or a beach lounger, so the “all-inclusive” deal was maybe not the best value).
I wanted to see the whole island and do active things, so we did! We did a huge hike (most of the group didn’t make it to the top, ha!) and a long boat ride and a boat tour of the island, we visited the “drive-in” volcano and swam under a waterfall, we went to a hot springs and had a mud bath.
We LOVED the off-site trips, we loved walking back and forth along the beach, we loved the weather, the staff were great, we loved the activities (we went kayaking, sailing, and waterskiing which were all included in the price) but most of all we just loved being on our honeymoon.
It was totally worth it, but I think I learned that I don’t need to pay for all-inclusive as hubby and I are more about the moving around, seeing stuff than we are about lounging/eating/drinking.
Try to decide in advance the vibe you want, the things you’ll be interested in, and see which resort has more of those things to offer.
Does one have more side trips (if you care)? Does one have water sports for free and another doesn’t? Does one cover top shelf liquor and another doesn’t? Do you want blue water, or green? Or are you a pool person?
Honestly, I think wherever you go you will love it–it’s your honeymoon! It was super romantic.

Well I don’t know much about Sandals (although lately I’ve been tempted by their plunge pool suites in St. Lucia). But I went to Couples Sans Souci last year with my FI for our first vacation together. And we both loved it! There was a max of like 300 guests, so the resort isn’t a mega resort, but it’s really spread out with lots of plant life, so it feels almost like you’re vacationing in your own private jungle. The staff were really good too and the food was delicious. We definitely would go back to visit there again.
