I put a Dyson on ours, one of the ball ones. Only heard good things about it!

You can look at reviews there, if you like--or explore the brands your registry store offers to see which is the best that they offer!
Hands down, the Dyson Ball! It's amazing - we use it all the time, and it picks up everything - pet hair, tiny granules of dust / sand, anything. I would never go back to anything else!
This is a great question... Which vacuum is the best for pet hair?
Our pooch has a skin issue so he sheds more than usual which normally clogs up and kills the vacuum. We are also looking for recommendations.
My DH was a non-believer in spending that much on a vacuum until I brought it home and made him use it. Now, he'll never go back. We have two english springer spaniels that shed a fair amount and we've never managed to clog the vacuum. There is a filter on the animal you are supposed to take out and rinse every few months but we manage about every 6-8 months or so and have no problem.
My number one recommendation is to buy a vaccuum with a bag. Bagged clog way less than the non-bagged.
The Dysons are pretty good but I went to a vacuum repair/sales shop (when my Hoover WindTunnel broke after a year - DO NOT BUY HOOVER) and they said that Riccars are the best and most long lasting vaccuums. They are really expensive though and only for sale at authorized dealers so you may not be able to add them to your registry. All I can say is do not fall for a Hoover. The Bissell Pet Pro something or other is supposed to be great for pet hair. For now, I just bought a $40 Dirt Devil from Target and it has been doing great. It's incredibly lightweight and has fun attachments.
We have a dyson and LOVE it. Our 85lb lab sheds like mad, and the dyson gets every last hair. I would never go back to a regular old vacuum after using the dyson!
This is ours
We bought a Dyson. We have a dog, cat and guinea pig- lots of hair. I don't ever have to vacuum anymore cause my fiance seriously loves it. Crazy I know.
With a Bernese Mountain Dog, I think I qualify as one of the hardest people on vacuums in the world! We got a dyson for Christmas 2 years ago and had completely destroyed it within a week. (Part of that may have been the fact that we perceived it as indestructable!) I don't have a better suggestion, because now we have all hardwood floors...
@ fanatic BBB - I know what you mean about clogging... but the Dyson has a special technology that means it will never clog. It's patented, so no other brands can use it... (hence why a lot of the other brands stick to bags.)
@ RoddyBride09 - We were going to get the Dyson Animal originally, as we wanted one good for dog hair - but that one is actually being discontinued as the Ball is replacing it. It has the same power as the Animal but is much smaller...
@ Mrs DG -
A Bernese Mountain Dog? How awesome!!! I have been infatuated with those dogs for years... Please post a pic?
DYSON. ANIMAL. Seriously. I have 3 pugs which shed 24 hours a day. It has saved our house :)
I should add that we have broken 2 "regular" vacuums prior to our Dyson.
Mrs Moose - I'm not sure what was discontinued but we actually just bought at Dyson Animal that also has the ball.
It's freaking amazing! The weekend before we bought it I vacummed the carpet, used my horse brush to "curry" it (I know it sounds wierd, but a "shedding blade" does wonders for making your carpet look new!) and then vacummed again. Granted, our old vacuum was awful but we still filled the canister of the Dyson nearly THREE TIMES with dust and dirt that the old one didn't pick up. The carpet felt SO much cleaner! It's wonderful.
They are expensive though so definitely shop around and wait for a good coupon. We ended up getting it for 20% off at Kohls which saved us more than burning a $100 Lowes gift certificate on it!
DYSON!!!! My husband loves ours so much, that I have not have to vacuum once in the year+ that we have had it. It sucks everything up and is so easy to empty.
Looks like I'm the only one who isn't recommending a Dyson! I'd suggest a Miele http://www.miele.com/ It's what my fiance and I have now and it battles cat hair (we have 2 long hair cats) like a champ.
I originally wanted a Dyson, but my aunt bought one and it never worked on all her pet hair. My fiance was adamant about getting a Miele because his mom had had one when he was growing up, and it lasted for at least 20 years.
We love our Dyson pet hair vacuume!!! Especially their wand attachment, it saves me about half the time I used to spend doing the same job.
Dyson (I have a DC15 that I got a great deal on at costco) - I have a cat with long fine hair and a Newfoundland dog - so let me tell you the amount of hair dropped on my floor is nothing short of amazing (in a disgusting way). It makes my carpets so clean. I have no problem recommending it to anyone!
One thing - make sure you get the mini-turbine brush head, it is not included in most models (it wads in my DC15 package from costco) and it is AMAZING for using to vacuum in your car, tight places, and my cat tree!
I second the miele recommendation (Cheers Nexus-6!!). My mom had one so I grew up using it. When I bought a moderately priced vac after college I was shocked at how terrible it was. Read reviews online, I think you will find that miele is the best and they DO last FOREVER. My mom is still using the one we had when I was a child (so it is at least 15 years old now) and we had a dog and two long haired cats - I now borrow it to use in my apt until we get our very own! I know Bloomies and Williams Sonoma carries it. Good luck!
Ooooh and good luck on the final weeks before your wedding! You must be so excited!
Dyson, dyson and dyson...... vaccuming with a dyson is addictive because i cannot believe what it picks up
DYSON! We love it! And my husband loves it so much he does almost all the vacccuming! He thinks it's a toy!
Good info to know! My vacuum is on its last legs and I can't wait to register for a really good vacuum to take care of my dog's hair!
Woweee there are some opinions on vacuums! Who knew?? Love it. Thanks for the suggestions!
Mrs. DG - If I lived in Seattle (where I'm originally from) I would have a Bernese Mountain Dog, too. I just love them. I grew up with German Shepherds. I don't have one now, but they have a hard enough time in AZ! You have to let them swim in a pool:-)
I also have a Dyson, which I love. HOwever, my parents just had a Kirby salesman in their house and he used their Dyson first and then used the Kirby and they were amazed at what the Dyson left behind. I have no idea what the Kirbys run, but I know it's a lot.
We have the dyson ball and loooove it. It swivels like a dream...
I've had my Oreck for 3 years and love it! No problems. Good filtering w/hepa filter.
Dyson ALL The way! Once you go Dyson you never go back! I think all models are just as good. :)
P.S. We have the original yellow one as does his brother. We each have one dog each (his bro has 2 cats as well) and it works great. His parents have 3 dogs and 2 cats and they have the Dyson Animal.
