Back before Mr. Cajun & I started wedding planning, before we set a date, before we even started dating–never mind got engaged–I went for a job interview. And I mean way back, like 10 years ago. They told me basically that I’d have had the spot if only I was graduating a month earlier (they needed someone who could start work in April, and I was stuck in Georgia til May). I interviewed with them again in 2008, after I got laid off, and in 2010, but like most design firms at that point they had no work available.
Then while I was at work Thursday I got a message to give them a call. Talked to them yesterday, and the company head basically told me that the position was open again and that if I still wanted it, it was mine, no questions asked.
I honestly sat down after I got off the phone and cried. Seriously, best wedding present EVER.

@cajungirl81: I have never heard of that happening. Talk about a delay between interview and hiring! Glad you’re happy though – congrats!

That is totally awesome! You must have had quite the interview five years ago if they thought of you right away when the position opened up now. Congratulations!

Wow!! You really must have stood out if they thought to call you years later!! Yayyy!!!

Thanks, all! I’ve never heard of such a thing either, most companies only hold your resume for 60 days or so. I think what may have been to my advantage is that it’s a small company that advertises mainly by word of mouth so it’s not like they’re being flooded with resumes. In fact, I only got the initial interview with them in 03 because I had the crazy idea to just go through all the design firms listed in the phone book and just start calling until someone agreed to see me.
I spent Thursday night freaking out, worrying they wanted another interview, while all my stuff is packed up for the move to the new house. Having this off my shoulders is a huge relief!

Thanks! It sort’ve is, I waited for this for so long it doesn’t quite seem real. And it actually makes me a little nervous that they’re putting this much trust in me. I just hope I live up to the hype…

@cajungirl81: My best wedding present is similar although not as dramatic. 🙂
We did not plan a honeymoon because I was dreaming of being employed at a ‘real’ job in September. (as a teacher, you need to be there for the beginning of the school year!!) and FINALLY, I was hired to start this coming September. Yayayayayayay!!!
I am feeling completely un-stressed about everything now. 🙂
