One of my favorite bridal salons locally is Hitched down in Georgetown. They’ve got it all – as far as styles go, and they’re all adorable. Let me know how it works out for you!

i’m a newly engaged (as of mid-october) august dc bride too! yay!

i’ve been to 5 local salons so far, and i think i’m buying my dress in about a week…hitched in georgetown is amazing (i’m leaning towards a dress there), but i think their dresses start in a higher price range. i had a great experience too at carine’s in georgetown–and i think they are having a sample sale soon–i just deleted an email from them about it. vera wang at saks jandel was great too. riziks at farragut north was good, but i wasn’t a fan of the dresses i tried on. hannelore’s in old town–ugh. i hated everything about it! the consultant basically told me i was too fat to try on the samples (i’m like a street size 8-10…)

I bought mine at Ellie’s on North Washington in Old Town. It’s pretty laid back, has a decent selection, and the price ranges are probably $800-3,000. The consultant there is super energetic and helpful and I was very happy to give her the business. She let me spend quality time with my family and even let them help me put on the dresses. I was able to try on whatever dress I wanted which was nice because then I could easily say alright I’ve now tried on a lace dress and dont like that…I don’t like beads, etc. Plus my sisters and mom could go out and grab whatever dress they wanted to see on me. I was really happy I bought my dress there and they gave me 10% off of the dress which was already $200 cheaper than it was at Hannelore’s like three blocks away. My dress comes in in five months…I can’t wait!!!

I went to the Vera Wang in Saks Jandel (though I ended up getting my Vera online) and the service was really great. They didn’t poo poo my budget. Samples started at about 2500 but the girl was sweet. And totally saw my boobs a lot.

I heard great things about Hitched on yelp, but it just seemed totally out of my league so I never went.

I recently went to “Blush Bridal Boutique” in Gainesville, VA… I would not rec them for one moment.

They have great designers and great gowns.  The business is plain awful!

My Experience:

They knew I was driving 3.5 hrs to come see one dress. Obviously I really really like it, and being a Justin Alexander know it’s in the $2,000+ range.

–They wouldn’t quote me a price, period. Unless in person.

– They could’t give directions!  Seriously, the girl I was speaking too changed her mind 3 times for a one street one turn way to get to the store, then told me it was across the highway from a hotel.  Well, it’s on the same side of the highway as the hotel.  That’s only the beginning of how the employees are completely space cadets.

-Every dress in the store contained a tag, including designers name and price.  They had the Justin all ready to go for me… without a price tag.  When I asked for a price she went to the register to look and came back with a price $200 higher than any other store I’ve talked to or heard of (including Kleinfields).

-Since only the High School age employee’s where there, they had to leave me to go call the owner to negotiate on “my” behalf.

-The dress came with an ornate, hand beaded, lace long sleeve jacket.  They were only going to give me a $100 discount to not order it.

-They told me the color of the sample was the ONLY color the dress came in.  It was a dark toffee color.  According to the JA website and others who have bought the dress in IVORY… that’s not the only color.

Considering the level of the dresses they sell, the store is completely un-professional and un-ethical.  I’ve seen reviews mentioning how bad the alterations process is there, but I didn’t think much of it as i would just be buying the gown.  If I end up with this dress, it will NOT be from this store.

I got my dress at the JCrew in Georgetown. They have all of the wedding dresses there in the store for you to try on, and their Bridal Consultant is super nice & helpful! Plus I went in while there was a 25% off sale going on online, and they let me apply the discount to my dress! If you like their styles I would definitely recommend it.

I had the hardest time finding many dresses with straps, so good luck on that!

I went to Ellies in Alexandria. They didn’t have very many dresses with straps, but overall it was a good experience and the designers are mostly in your price range. They had a cute bolero that I was trying on with the strapless dresses.

I went to Katherines which is also in Alexandria, and it was more of a salon experience, but the prices were still ok.

My main advice is not to buy anything at the tagged price in the DC area. The mark-up is extreme. Definitely do your research and call around to less expensive areas for price comparisons. If you can’t negotiate, then go somewhere else to buy. I bought my dress in PA, but I still recommend Ellies and Katherines in Alexandria.

I got my dress at Distinctive Designs in Rockville.  I cannot say enough good things about my experience there.  Since purchasing my dress, I’ve been back a couple of times to try veils, etc and each time they have been so nice and welcoming.  I would definitley recommend them.

^^Glad to hear good reviews on Distinctive Designs. I have an appointment on Saturday.

I’ve only been to Hannelores in Old Town Alexandria and did not really enjoy my experience.  The consultant was extremely pushy and while I found a dress I loved the experience made me not want to purchase it from there.  They do have a nice selection though.

hitched in georgetown is having a sample sale next week–“Thursday, January 14th, 5-8pm. The event is first-come, first-serve, so no appointment is necessary.” and carine’s is having one a few days later “Sunday, January 17th, 12pm to 3pm”

i already bought my dress (at hitched! they’re awesome!), but i still emails from vendors…
