I need new sneakers to wear when working out. I usually don’t wear sneakers during the day, and I have a pair of Nikes that will do if I need to walk a long distance, but am not hiking or doing anything “active.” They are more “fashion sneakers” than anything, so that doesn’t really work for me when working out.
Right now I am doing the 30 Day Shred video in my house as my work out. I also have access to an elliptical machine, and sometimes go power walking or do aerobics. As I continue doing the 30 Day Shred I have a feeling that my work outs are going to become more intense (I may try out Zumba) so I need a shoe that really gives me support.
Any suggestions? The specific shoe name would be great (as opposed to just the brand) because each brand has so many different options. I am also going to be purchasing them on Zappo’s most likely.
Thanks for the help!

@star_dust: I dont have any particular shoes in mind, but shoes fit differently for each person IMO. I would go to a shoe store and be fitted, walk around in different styles. I bought work out shoes online becsuse of the reviews, but they did not work for me at all. they we’re too narrow and I did not have good posture while running, I got shin splints :(.

@Girasole: +1. Everybody has different feet. I’m the kind of person that could try on every pair of shoes in DSW and not find anything comfy…then I went and got fitted for running shoes and the first pair they showed me was magic. Running shoes are usually fitted a size bigger, but I also have that same pair in my correct size for classes at the gym.
ETA, I was also working out in the wrong shoes before I got fitted and ended up injured. What works great for one person might not work for you.

I like Nike sneakers simply because they’ve lasted longer than other workout sneakers I’ve worn (I know – you were more interested in a specific shoe than a brand, but I’ve had good experiences with that brand). But definitely go try on a bunch of sneakers and see what’s comfortable!

@star_dust: I would go to a local running shop & have them check your gait. They will help you choose the right shoes!

I’m a new balance girl when actually wear them, most of my working out activities are done in bare feet…I have very narrow feet with high arches..if that helps.

@mamadingdong: +1 I agree everyone’s feet are different. I Loved my Brooks but once I started doing long runs they weren’t good so I had to switch and now I have Saucony and those are awesome also.

I just got the Nike Zoom Structure +16’s. I run often and I LOVE these shoes!!! Major support. It is a good idea to go to a specialty shoe store and get measured and let them tell you the support you need. That’s the only thing that helped me.

I have Mizuno Wave Riders that I got from Zappos. They are running shoes and very comfortable and light. I have wide feet with high arches and its hard to find women’s shoes that are wide (often I buy men’s sneakers). I really like them!

I have custom inserts for my shoes. They were fitted to a mold of my feet, and mostly covered by insurance.
