Regardless of how good the movie was, what are your favourite and least favourite Romantic Comedy Couples? I’m basing this solely on how believeable the two would be together in real life.
Best: The first one that comes to mind for me is Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles in “10 Things I Hate About You.” I didn’t LOVE that movie, but those two looked so good together!
Worst: Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogan in “Knocked Up.” I cannot imagine someone like her would ever be with a guy like him, let alone have a child with him. Worst.
Fantasy: Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. How have these two NOT been romantic love interests before? I know they star together in Gravity, but that is certainly NOT a romantic comedy. I also like the idea of Liam Hemsworth and Keira Knightley.
Who are your choices?

Best: Im so predictable…. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. both insanely good looking and charming. But it might be because of the love story in the notebook. But they really did a good job of portraying that kind of love. The forever kind. The kind that’s not easy but is all that you want.
Worst: Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. I just don’t like julia roberts and anytime she plays he love interest I just don’t get it. And while I think richard gere is very handsome, there’s just something about him and his mannerisms that bother me.
Fantasy: I would really like to see Sanda Bullock and George clooney too. In real life and in the movies. 🙂

Hmm… this is tricky!
Best: James Marsden and Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses. It was really hard to think of a ‘rom com’ that I can watch again and again and still think is fairly high quality, most of them I enjoy but tend to nitpick! But both of them seemed intelligent, quite sparky, and also I thought they had great chemistry. And also I love James Marsden. (Alternative suggestion: Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, BBC 1995 Pride and Prejudice because it is FLAWLESS IS EVERY WAY) (Alternative Alternative: Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in Crazy Stupid Love) (Honorable Mention: Steve Carrell and Keira Knightley in Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World)
Worst: Robert Downey Jr and Marisa Tomei in Only You. I stumbled across it and thought I’d watch it because I love RDJ, but it was a TERRIBLE film and they just did not work together AT ALL.
Fantasy: Jack Davenport and Keira Knightley. I still maintain that in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, Elizabeth should have married Norrington, who was wonderful, instead of Will who was a wet blanket. And when you listen to their audio commentary for the first film they have such a great sense of humour together and spark off each other really really well.

BEST: Alysson Hannigan and Jason Segel (aka Lily & Marshal) from How I Met Your Mother. They are just… perfect. And I know relationships like theirs exist (because I’m in one!)
WORST: Cameron Diaz and Jude Law in The Holiday. It just didn’t seem like a good pairing at all. Jack Black and Kate Winslet were the surprisingly better couple in that movie.
FANTASY: Hmm. I’ll have to get back to you on this one.

Best: Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler in The Ugly Truth. Love that movie! I also love Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love.
Worst: I’m with you on the Seth Rogan and Katherine Heigl. Also I have a hard time when Owen Wilson, Vince Vaugn, or Paul Rudd are the male part of the romantic couple. They are too douche-baggy for my taste.
Fantasy: I’m loving Julianne Hough lately so her with Ryan Gosling.

@sugar_biscuit: I agree with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, but I think Paul Rudd can be great in romcoms. As terrible as ‘How Do You Know’ was, and as bland as Reese Witherspoon was in it, I thought he was really sweet in it. And he was great in Friends and ‘I Love You Man’ (although that was more a bromance than a romance). But I also really like his kind of sarcastic dry humour, so I can perhaps see why he’d be unappealing – I don’t link him with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson though, I see them more as fratboy-style douches, whereas he tends to come across usually as a bit more intelligent.
Oh, man, and how could I forget ‘Clueless’?? He was perfect in that movie!

@chronicwhimsy: You are right Paul Rudd is definately not as bad as the other two. I can’t exactly put my finger on why I am not into him. Perhaps he reminds me of someone in real life. Or maybe I just have the image of the mirror scene in This Is 40 stuck in my head!

@sugar_biscuit: But he is a total fox, what are you talking about?
Who wouldn’t want that in their lives? 😉
I’ve not seen This Is 40, and I’ll admit I didn’t like his character that much in Knocked Up, but given my feelings on just about everyone else in that movie, I still enjoyed it best when he was on-screen (and actually, thinking on it more, I think he may have actually been the only even vaguely reasonable character in a film full of narcissistic douches… I did not like that film)

@mgol25: Keira Knightley and Liam Hemsworth! I’d never thought of the two of them together, but now that you mention it, they would make a cute couple. Too bad she just got married 🙁
Best: Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Classic rom com couple and so good together they had to make 2 (or more?) movies.
Worst: No one stands out in my mind right now, but I’m sure if I thought about it some more, I could come up with someone.
Fantasy: +1 to the PP that said Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. They are both so ridiculously good looking and they had amazing chemistry in Crazy Stupid Love. Wish they were together in real life, but Andrew Garfield is okay too 🙂
