Attention Brides to Be:
Wanted to share my experience with the above referenced vendors for your benefit.
I initially contacted Maria of Formerly Miss because I was in the market for a Day of Coordinator (DOC) and a bride on LIWeddings.com (LIW) who is using her services, mentioned her name when I inquired. We met with Maria and one other DOC (Nina of Marckz & Co.). Nina’s DOC fee is $500, minus $100 for LIW members vs. Maria’s fee of $900. Although Maria’s fee was significantly higher, we decided to hire her (even though Russo’s on the Bay assured us we would not need a DOC). I called Maria to see if we could negotiate. When I explained Marckz & Co.’s fee is less than half of that of Formerly Miss, Maria lowered her fee by $50 and told me she would include other services that were not included in her contract, such as review vendor contracts, negotiate with one vendor who was not yet contracted and go shoe shopping with me (not easy to find the perfect shoe :). Unfortunately, I never got this in writing and have only my and my husband’s recollection of it. Of course, Maria conveniently forgot she said she would include these services, as she “deals with many brides and cannot remember what she says to who.”
Even though we had already met with Maria once (free consultation), she came to meet with us once we hired her to go over the contract and collect our deposit of $425. Following that meeting, I asked Maria if she’d be willing to come into the city for dinner (my treat) to just chat and go over some things that I was stressing over. She agreed, and we planned the meeting (which she needed to reschedule once). Following the dinner meeting, I received an email from Maria “encouraging” me to consider upgrading to her next level of service, which would cost us an additional $300. I was put off by this, as it seemed to have come out of left field (if she had a problem coming to meet me for dinner, she should have said so up front). You can imagine my frustration.
Five weeks prior to the wedding, I reached out to Maria to let her know I would be needing her help. In a previous email of hers, she declared, “I am here to make the next few months go as smooth as possible!” After the chain of events, I wanted reassurance “next few months” included last five weeks. Her response, the “last few months” statement was made BEFORE we signed for DOC services. This woman is a blatant liar. I never contacted her for a service other than DOC, so that was just her way of defending her negligence and misrepresentation.
She is unorganized, inexperienced and negligent. I would certainly not trust her with the most important day of my life and in fact, the wedding day was perfect, even without a DOC. Ladies, save your money for the honeymoon and house! You do not need a DOC!
If you do end up using Maria’s services, be sure to get EVERYTHING in writing, in detail! Save all email correspondence (just in case) and be sure to have a good attorney 🙂
If you need a DOC, but still haven’t found one, Nina of Marckz & Co. is great (and a sweetheart, to boot!).

In a nutshell, we did not get what we paid for. We paid for manzanita branches, we got something else. We paid for 35 blooms of cymbidium orchids per centerpiece, we were lucky if we got 15 on some. My bouquet was delivered with rhinestones instead of pearls (although he did send someone to my parents’ house right away to replace the rhinestones with pearls). The outer petals on the roses in my bridesmaids’ bouquets were dying. We needed to remove them before the wedding! The groomsmen’s boutonnieres died before the reception. We discussed a dais arrangement, although he forgot to include it in the final proposal (I did not notice, as I had other things on my mind :). We found it odd, however, as on two previous proposals, he indicated a dais arrangement (price changed from $155 to 195 from the first to the next. Strange, huh.). Also, when I noticed the dais arrangement was missing Day of, our Maitre’D called him and he said, “we never discussed a dais arrangement.”
Overall, very unhappy with his services.
Hope this helps, ladies! Remember, do not sweat the small stuff. Everything will be fine!
