You need to take a deep breath. It doesn’t sound like he was very pleasant to deal with, but as far as legally, I don’t think he has done anything wrong (besides be a jerk to you). A deposit is just a hold, and if you cancel, you often forfeit unless a contract states otherwise. I am venturing the assumption that you don’t have a contract, or you would have mentioned that detail. If you do, fight him with it. If you don’t, sorry, but you’re out of luck. What he did with the money is irrelevant.

And for what it is worth, depending on how big you wanted the pig to be, it is possible he bought a piglet 4 months in advance and is letting it grow. Most butchers/people who roast pigs will kill it just before they roast it. Not like you’re going to put an entire pig in the freezer.

I am sorry you are going through this difficulty, but these rants rarely end well. He’s going to find this eventually.

@Amaryllis: I disagree. (I love the name Amaryllis btw) He broke his end of the bargain by breaking the appointment. I think he owes her that much.

@KEDUBYA: Hey Dubs, THANK-YOU!!!! I am also in Kitsap (Manchester) and had not planned on using that place but appreciate knowing that for future reference. What sort of policies are posted at their barbecue place? On the receipt? You may have a good case…not only did he break your appointment, by buying the pig so early; even in deep freeze, he’s not providing the quality product/s that you were promised…I’m just sayin’
