Do you have pictures of the dress from just before they were sent out to be cleaned? That might help as "evidence" that the stains were not there beforehand...
Oh wow - that completely sucks. Have you taken it to another cleaner and asked for their opinion? Sometimes they can help figure out what the stain is or make recommendations.
My Vera Wang was destroyed at the dry cleaner (wasn't brand-new for me, was cleaning it to get it ready for my wedding)
The entire bodice was streaked with gray marks -- with a greasy residue.
The cleaner took the "liberty" of cleaning it a second time without my permission and then charged me for both cleanings.
@mrbee: Yes, I do have photos of the dress before, it's on me at the end of the night on my wedding, but you can clearly see no stains in the photos and these are the kind of stains you would be able to easily see.
@kenziegirl: So what ended up happening with your dress?
Sorry about what happent o your dress. I think that you should of got a full refund.
I never posted about this, but I just wanted to give you a heads up. Customer service sucks at wedclean.
I was thinking about using WedClean due to the rave reviews. I had a few questions about the difference between their two packages and wanted to speak to someone directly.
The email address posted on the customer service part of their website bounced back to me. After thorough searching, I found an email on their blog. It bounced as well.
The voice mail on their phone number was garbled so I couldn't make out if I had called WedClean. I left a message and to this day have never gotten a call back.
I decided to go with another cleaning company in the long run.
BTW, don't believe them when they say those stains won't darken. According to another preservation company, because of the chemical treatment, you can no longer take out stains like that. The stains may darken due to the sugar in the champage carmelizing over time.
I'm sorry to hear about your dress. Maybe you can salvage it by adding a layer of organza over the material.
@sfgal: Yeah, I've been noticing that problem about customer service. As for the stains it can't be as they say "colorless sodas and champagne". I don't drink soda, so I know I didn't spill any on me and I had just 1 sip of champagne for a toast while I was sitting and know for a fact I didn't spill any of that on me either.
OH MY! That is so terrible! I would be so upset if this happened to my dress and I paid no where near $5,000. They definitely need to reimburse you 100% for completely failing on their part. I hope this works out and that your dress is able to be fixed!
So after all this, I still can't get in contact with anyone or get a response for them. Meanwhile, whatever stain is sitting on my dress just continues to sit on it and doing who knows what. For sure I think they need to offer a 100% refund, but really for such an expensive dress, I'm expecting more than that from them. I mean the stains are in a place that makes it so I can't even sell my dress to recoup some of my money.
I would say you need to speak to a manager of wedclean. If they keep avoiding you via phone, can you track down the email and snail mail addresses for their management? Definitely submit a written complaint with your pictures and account of what happened.
I'm so sorry this happened to your beautiful dress. They owe it to you to at least respond to your concerns asap! Let us know what happens...good luck.
@glitter: I've been corresponding with them through e-mail up to this point because I want everything that's been going on in writing. I've also asked to speak to a manager and still haven't gotten a response. I did a lot of reading up on them before I chose them and it seemed like they could be trusted, I guess you just never know.
Sorry to hear about your dress...I guess I should count my blessings since I experienced no problems with WedClean when I shipped off my dress. It came back fully preserved and cleaned. Let us know if you are able to get a second opinion on the stains.
I'm somewhat surprised by the process. I used J. Scheer and after I sent my gown in, they sent me a report of the stains and damage they saw on the dress. They then got my authorization and cleaned the dress. I was dissapointed that the stains weren't completely removed (they had warned me this might be the case), but because of the process, I new for certain that the stains were there before the dress was cleaned. I would assume that all cleaning and restoration companies would use a similar process--especially when you're dealing with gowns of significant value.
This is so sad, but a GREAT warning to everyone taking their dress to get it cleaned before storing it.
I think it would probably be a great idea to take pictures of the dress - while still wearing it and make a note of anything YOU can see on it and note that.
Then point them out to the clearner when you take it in and inspect it before leaving with it again.
I'm going to guess this service is something you mail your dress in to?
Again, so sorry about your dress, but thanks for the warning to all of us!
Also - I TOTALLY agree with you that they should give you the money you would be able to get if you sold it.
Take them to Judge Judy!!
@MissBlueBear: Thanks! I'm working on that second opinion and hoping someone can do something.
@ljlkclark: How nice they sent you a report of what they found before they cleaned the dress so you wouldn't be surprised by anything in the end!
@thefuturemrsjohnson: I have plenty of photos of my dress and you can see any stains in them like the ones that are now on my dress, and yes, it is a service you send your dress in to.
I'm also STILL waiting to hear from the WedClean people, guess they are hiding from me or something.
@vee: Thanks for the suggestion, but I just tried to search for them on the BBB website and they aren't registered with them so it doesn't appear like there is a way to file a complaint.
Is this the same WedClean you used?

I would strongly advise working within official channels before filing a complaint. But if you feel like you've exhausted all the usual channels, there's a link to file a complaint in the left sidebar. Good luck!
Yes, thank you for finding it Mr. Bee! I just got a check today in the mail for $94 (half of what I paid for the cleaning) from them. I'm of course not going to cash it, but I hope they aren't assuming they didn't write me off with that check. I'm going to try to get as high up as possible with my complaint in their company and as a last resort I will use the BBB. I would prefer to come to some sort of agreement with WedClean before reporting them because that just won't really solve my problem.
Bump, bump, bump.
There's a lot of dress-cleaning talk going on right now, it seems, and I want to make sure that brides considering wedclean see your post! I'm so so sorry that this happened to you. Please keep us posted on how it all turns out. :(
Thanks drifts, it's been such a horrible process and it's just heartbreaking. I can't wait until we reach some sort of resolution. It's amazing that their customer service was so great before "the incidient" and now and it's like they are ghosts and only respond to me every few weeks. I know a lot of other people have had a wonderful experience with them, but I just hope the girls who read what happened to me think extra hard about how much their dress means to them. If it's something you would really like to keep or even sell, I hope they all think hard because it's one of those things you can't really go back on.
Lillindy,
From a recent thread, I noticed that you are in San Jose. Take your gown to National Gown Cleaners in Campbell. I went in there for a consultation and the lady was super nice and informative. She'll have articles and such for you to read and such before you make any sort of decision.
Maybe they can salvage your gown or give you ideas on how to salvage your gown.
P.S. They are not cheap. But the consultation is free.
@sfgal: Thanks so much! I will definately go check them out and see what they say. I'm happy to read on their website that they actually insure your gowns for what they are worth in case something happens to them.
sfgal and lillandy -- thanks for the advice! I've decided not to sell my dress and to preserve it instead. Now I just need to save the money to get it cleaned and preserved!
I just sent my gown to wedclean. I've read more positive things than negative. Two of my girlfriends also had great results. The only reason I sent it was to get it cleaned to sell. I didn't think anyone could do anything, however, they returned it to like new. So I made some of the $11,000 back my hubby spent on the dress. Anyway, sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Mine was great!

Oh no! How do you think those stains got on there? Was is mishandling at the cleaner? Or one of those terrible side businesses where the cleaner gives your dress to someone else to wear? Ugh, a sickening thought!

I started saying good things about this company before I got my dress and I shouldn't have.
I got my dress back on December 18th. I contacted WedClean that day and finally got a response from them TODAY...almost a month later. My dress had 2 orange stains on it that it did not have on it before. On the sheet they included with the dress, it also said nothing about these mysterious stains. One of the stains even feels dirty still when I run my finger over it. I'm attaching the photos and also the response I got from WedClean today.
"Sorry for the delay due to the holidays and thank you for your patience in this matter.
We are very sorry you are disappointed with the final results of your dress. We do use more intense lighting when we inspect the dresses and what we see sometimes is worse than you had imagined. Silk dresses are by far more challenging to clean and sometimes the stain that is very faint or invisible will come to surface with the cleaning agents. Most of the time these are the "wet" stains from colorless sodas and champagne. The process does however remove and neutralize all harmful residues that may cause age stains or premature aging of your dress. These stains will not get any worse. I hope this eases your mind a bit and doesn't take away from the memories of this event. At this time we do not feel we can do anything else for your dress because any additional cleaning may damage the gown.
We will however issue a 50% refund of $189.95 ."
Now, I think this is RIDICULOUS! They want to give me less than $100 for RUINING my Anne Barge dress that cost me OVER $5,000!?! I'm going to be on the phone with them first thing in the morning because this is not right. I may not wear the dress again, but now no one can. I can't resell it, I can't even let a family member wear it because these stains on on the upper from part of the skirt. There are other stains that were on the dress that they also didn't completely get out, but those I could understand (like dirt on the bottom of the skirt). So, beware because this is not the service I expected from them.
